Rolex Hotness: Charlize Theron

Rolex Hotness: Charlize Theron
Academy Award Winner For Best Actress
L.A. Laker's Game
Rolex DEEP-SEA

So we all know it has been very popular for women to wear men's Rolex watches for the last decade and even longer. It is interesting that as the size of Rolex men's watches get larger to see women wearing them as well. In this next set of photos we see Academy Award winning actress Charlize Theron at a recent L.A. Laker's game sporting her Rolex DEEP-SEA.

Congratulations to the L.A. Laker's who recently won the NBA Championship. I really like this L.A. Times photo showing Kobe Bryant as the Laker's won the championship on June 17, 2010.

Rolex Moon Watch Evidence Update NASA Apollo 14 Pepsi Rolex GMT Master

Update: A reader wrote in and asked if this story was about the Pepsi Rolex GMT Master Moon watch I wrote about months ago? No. That Rolex GMT-Master Moon watch belonged to Ronald Evans and went to the moon aboard Apollo 17, as did Jack Swigert's Rolex GMT Master aboard Apollo 13.

First Rolex Moon Watch Proof!!!

Pepsi Rolex GMT Master Moon Watch
NASA Apollo 14

I have been exploring in the NASA archives and I want to give you a significant update, which, for the first time in Rolex history, proves unequivocally, a Rolex GMT-Master was worn on the lunar surface of the moon!!!!

When I first started talking about how NASA Apollo astronauts wore Pepsi Rolex GMT Master watches to the moon and walked on the moon with them, some people thought I was crazy, but today, for the first time, I will prove it beyond-a-shadow-of-a-doubt.

This first NASA photo is of the NASA Apollo 14 Lunar Module parked on the Moon surface which delivered Dr. Edgar Mitchell and Alan Shepard to the moon surface and returned them to the Service Module.

Apollo 14
Lunar Module Moon Lift-Off
February 6, 1971 18:48:42 UT
Lunar Module Pilot: Dr. Edgar Mitchell
Rolex GMT-Master

The following three photos show Dr. Edgar Mitchell and Alan Shepard as they take-off from the Moon surface to return to the Apollo 14 Command/Service Module in the Grumman-made Lunar Lander module named "Antares." During their moonwalk, Dr. Edgar Mitchell set the all-time record for the longest moonwalk at 9 hours and 17 minutes.

In this first image, we see Alan Shepard putting on his oxygen mask and if you study his facial expression you see a bit of trepidation. After all, he has just experienced the most euphoric experience of his life and he is likely exhausted phyically and mentally–kind of like the way you feel after a full-day of great skiing or snowboarding. He likely realizes if the Lunar Lander does not take-off, they would be stranded on the moon and die.

In the next photo we see Dr. Edgar Mitchell as he prepares the 33,000 pound (15,264kg) Lunar Module (LM) for takeoff–since he was the Lunar Module pilot. We see Dr. Edgar Mitchell wearing his Pepsi GMT Master on his right wrist and we get a clear view of his Rolex Oyster bracelet. He is wearing an Omega Speedmaster Chronograph on a velcro NASA Spec Black Nylon Strap on his left wrist.

In the past, Dr. Edgar Mitchell recalled that he wore his Pepsi Rolex GMT Master on the moonwalk, but there has never been any photographic proof to confirm this fact–until today!!!!

This next photo shows Dr. Edgar Mitchell and Alan Shepard very enthusiastically shaking hands in a euphoric and jubilant moment of exultation as they succesfully take-off in the Lunar Module to return to the Service Module from the moon surface!!!!

This next NASA photo was taken of Dr. Edgar Mitchell and Alan Shepard after they returned from the Moon and were still in a 15 day quarantine in the MSC Lunar Receiving Laboratory at the Lyndon Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Notice, Dr. Mitchell is still wearing his Pepsi Rolex GMT Master on his right wrist.

In the future, I will be publishing much more information on the Rolex Moon Oysters, and to learn much more about Apollo 14 and the Rolex GMT Master watches they wore you can read the article I wrote three years ago.

Men Who Guide The Destinies Of The World Wear Rolex Watches

Several months ago, I wrote an article about Rolex's "Men Who Guide The Destinies Of The World Wear Rolex Watches" ad campaign which ran from the mid 1950s to the mid 1960s. Today, we have another ad from 1956 which I believe is the earliest known ad of this type.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau's 100th Birthday Today!!!

Jacques-Yves Cousteau
100th Birthday Today

Today is the 100th Anniversary of Jacques-Yves Cousteau's birthday. In the 1961 photo below we see President Kennedy presenting Jacques Cousteau with the National Geographic Society's Gold Medal. President Kennedy said:

"We have learned in the last sixty years how to fly better than the birds–or at least higher and longer, and the Captain has given us a possibility that some day we may swim as well as the fish–or at least deeper, and he is, therefore, one of the greatest explorers of an entirely new dimension, and I can imagine his satisfaction in having opened up the ocean floor to man and to science." –JFK

I have written detailed articles on the amazing achievements of Jacques-Yves Cousteau which I highly recommend. The first article illustrates how I discovered that Jacques Cousteau wore an early prototype Rolex in 1953 (Pictured below) when he filmed The Silent World.

The second article, is all about how Jacques Cousteau and Emile Gagnan invented the Aqua Lung which made SCUBA diving possible.

iPhone 4 Preview The Future Has Arrived

iPhone 4 Preview
The Ceramic Supercase Stainless Submariner of Smartphones
The Future Has Arrived

The all-new Apple iPhone 4 is on its way to market, and in many ways, it is remarkably similar to the all-new stainless-steel Rolex Submariner that will be hitting the market at the same time. Even the new Super-case on the iPhone is now made from a "special" ultra-high-grade stainless steel.

As many of you know, ever since the iPad came out, I have been working on optimizing Jake's Rolex World to work perfectly on it. As it turns out, doing so has also completely optimized it for the iPhone.

B.T,W., the all-new iPhone 4 is pictured below with its ultra-high-defintion screen which is truly magnificent!!!!

I used to "not get it" when it came to viewing Jake's Rolex World on the iPhone. I used to think that people would only want to really check it out on a laptop or desktop. That was, until I saw it laid-out properly on the iPhone!!! It turns out that it is really an enjoyable experience viewing Jake's Rolex World on the iPhone, and in particular, if you are out-and-about or you are waiting somewhere.

One of the questions you might be asking about the image above, is whether or not you can read Jake's Rolex World in a full-screen "kiosk" mode on the iPhone as depicted above? The answer is yes!!!

All you need, is to go to the Apple iTunes Store, and download a free browser named "Atomic Web," which has a full-screen kiosk mode. Atomic Web Browser works on the iPhone and iPad and allows you to navigate any web page as if it were an actual iPad or iPhone application!!! I decided to optimize all of Jake's Rolex World site for the iPad and iPhone running in Safari, or much better yet, in Atomic Web, as apposed to building applications.

Building separate apps would require maintaining two different databases which is unnecessarily redundant in my mind. Of course you can just check out RolexMagazine.com in Safari on the iPhone or iPad but then you get the ugly address bar and navigation bar which elementally compete with the content. If you use the full-screen mode, in Atomic Web, it looks beautiful. Atomic Web Browser for iPad and iPhone has a free version and the full version in only 99 cents.

When I view Jake's Rolex World on the iPhone and iPad, I only do so in the Atomic Web Browser, which I very highly recommend–and yes, Atomic Web Browser works on all models of iPhone.

Amazing Design

The iPhone 4 is nothing short of stunning!!! It has an all-new 326 pixel per square inch screen which makes it higher in resolution that printed pages in fine books!!! The new screen is 960 x 640 pixels and 3.5 diagonal inches, which gives you 78% of the pixels an iPad has!!!

Just for the record this is 614,400 pixels that are 78 micrometers wide each!!! This all-new innovative ultra-high-resolution screen alone completely changes the nature of the game and will make everything look great including detailed photos.

The new iPhone 4 is also 25% skinnier than the current iPhone and even narrower in width as seen below.

From the specs, the all-new iPhone also has a backlit 5 megapixel backlit camera sensor which should perform really well in low light conditions. The camera also has an LED flash that works both on the still and video camera. It also has a mind-boggling 720P video camera that captures 30 frames per second!!!!!

What does all this mean? It means we will no longer need to carry around a point-and-shoot or a video camera!!!!!!!!

The iPhone also has a new, second VGA camera on the front, to you can video conference or just see yourself like you are looking in the mirror. This will no doubt be popular with women who want to check their makeup ;-)

I could go on forever talking about all the great details that make the upcoming iPhone so compelling, but If you are interested in learning all the amazing details of the all-new iPhone, I highly recommend watching Steve Jobs' 2010 WWDC Keynote.

Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself...

Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself
Studio Shot Of The Day

Hi Everybody !

My name is Randy Nopasri, and I have long been a reader of Jake's Rolex World. I have also been pals with Jake for a few years and over the last couple of years we have talked on the phone.

Jake invited me to join the editorial team on Jake's Rolex World and I am very excited to hopefully entertain and educate you on some fun things. This is my first post, and I hope that as I get used to blogging, I will improve.

For my first post, I want to share this amazing photo that Vince took of his vintage ROLEX Reference 5513. I currently have this on my desktop as wallpaper since I think it is such a great image and I thought I would share it with you.

Normally I would not post two versions of the same image, but I couldn't make up my mind for which one I like better.

Nice to introduce myself, and I look forward to sharing some great ROLEX information with you in the future.

Randy
