Harrison Ford Returns As Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

...Rolex Ultra-Super-Coolness...

Harrison Ford
Returns to STAR WARS as Han Solo
The Force Awakens

Who is the coolest guy to ever wear a Rolex? Steve McQueen? Paul Newman? Sir Sean Connery? One could argue it would be Harrison Ford! In the photo below we see Harrison Ford reprise his role as Han Solo in the upcoming J.J. Abrams Star Wars movie, which launches in theaters TODAY!!!

"Chewy, we're home!"

My two favorite movies of all time both star Harrison Ford, and they are Raiders Of The Lost Ark, and the original Star Wars. I first saw Star Wars in 1976 in a movie theater, and it completely blew my mind!!! I just saw the new Star Wars movie named, "The Force Awakens" in iMax 3D, and once again, it completely blew my mind. It has to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. I won't spoil it by giving away any details, but I will say that J.J. Abrams did an AMAZING job of writing and directing the movie. In many ways seeing the new Star Wars movie was a heartwarming homecoming of sorts.

Below is the official Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer!!!!!

Star Wars

Trailer Teasers

Bellow you can see the first two official teaser trailers for the Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In these trailers, we see Harrison Ford return as Han Solo which is really cool. In the photo below, we see Harrison Ford wearing his Rolex Datejust, as he kissed Cary Fisher, with Mark Hamill looking on. If I recall correctly, I think I remember Cary Fisher saying she and Harrison Ford had an affair offscreen, which may explain that look on her face below :-o

The screen grab below is from the official Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer. I could not help but notice how similar it looks to the picture above, of Harrison Ford hugging Carrie Fisher. Completely unrelated, but fascinating nonetheless.

Below are some never before seen photos of young Harrison Ford wearing his Rolex Datejust from my unpublished Rolex archive. Harrison Ford is as timeless and classic as his Rolex Datejust.

Slip A Rolex Under The Tree

I recently mentioned Rolex's Instagram Page and how it had a bunch of famous people posting selfies of themselves sporting their Rolex watches. The photo below of singer Michael Buble appears on that page.

I thought since we are coming up on Christmas, it would be nice to check out the following Michael Bublé Christmas Special.

Rolex Instagram Is Awesome

If you haven't had a chance to check out the Rolex Instagram page, I highly recommend it. Rolex initially shunned the internet, but that has really changed recently. It appears Rolex is quickly moving to the leading edge of the web and it is really evident with their Instagram page.

When I first began Jake's Rolex World in 2008 I focused on showcasing photos of people, mostly celebrates wearing Rolex watches. I did this because prior to beginning Jake's Rolex World there were ZERO sources of photos of people wearing Rolex watches.

In other words, all the books, magazines and newspaper articles that focused on Rolex, published photos of just the watches, but I thought it was infinitely more interesting to see photos of people wearing their Rolex watches. In particular, I thought the "Human" story behind each Rolex was much more fascinating than the beautiful Rolex watches themselves.

Fast forward to today, and on the Rolex Instagram page, we see many famous Rolex wearers taking selfies and wrist shots of their Rolex watches!!! It really is amazing how far the web has come in the past eight years!!!

Speaking of Selfies, Rolex published this selfie that golf legend Jack Nicklaus took of himself, sporting his trademark yellow gold Rolex Day-Date. How cool is this!!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving from Jake!!!

Happy Thanksgiving from Jake!!!

Hi Everybody!!!

It is hard to believe it is already Thanksgiving again on Jake's Rolex Watch World!!! It has been another absolutely amazing year of filled with growth and amazing new Rolex historical content.

So many people have chosen to keep the time of their lives with Rolex, and the more time goes by, the more I realize how Rolex is really a universe in-and-of-itself. It's a world where the sun never sets, yet it's always daytime.

"The First Thanksgiving" painting by Jean Gerome Ferris (1863-1930)

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday because it gives us a chance to pause and reflect on how fortunate we all are to be able to experience this amazing miracle, known as life, on this spinning marble we all share–named Earth.

Of course I realize Thanksgiving is a U.S. holiday, but I believe it's as timeless and universal as a sunset or a smile :-)))

Once again, Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Warmest regards,

Jake

Steve McQueen Racing At Le Mans Rolex Submariner

...The King Of Cool...

Steve McQueen

OFFICIAL DOCUMENTARY TRAILER

 The Man & Le Mans

Rolex Submariner
Reference 5512

An all new documentary named Steve McQueen and Le Mans just released its first trailer, which can be seen below. This fascinating documentary covers his experience with filming his 1971 movie titled Le Mans.

STEVE MCQUEEN: THE MAN and LE MANS

Is the story of obsession, betrayal and ultimate vindication. It is the story of how one of the most volatile, charismatic stars of his generation, who seemingly lost so much he held dear in the pursuit of his dream, nevertheless followed it to the end.

STEVE MCQUEEN: THE MAN and LE MANS debuted earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival in France. A limited theatrical release will debut in Los Angeles and New York tomorrow on November 13th, 2015. A DVD of the documentary will be released on December 1st, 2015.

The poster below is the original 1971 movie poster for Le Mans, starring Steve McQueen. So basically the documentary above is about the making of the 1971 movie.

You can watch the entire Le Mans film below, and be sure to check out the scene at 3:09 seconds into the film where you can see Steve McQueen driving his 911 in the city of Le Mans, France, and you can also see him wearing his Submariner.

Below are previously unpublished images of Steve McQueen at Le Mans in 1971. In this first photo we get a clear shot of Steve McQueen wearing his Rolex Submariner.

In the photo below we see Steve McQueen leaning against a Ferrari 512S, while taking photos with his Nikon F SLR camera with a big lens, and of course, he is wearing his Rolex Submariner.

In the photo above and below we see Steve McQueen's 1969 Porsche 917K (Chassis Number 024) swathed in Powder Blue and Marigold Orange. This rare Porsche 917 featured an air-cooled 12 cylinder 560HP mid-engine. It disappeared after the movie was made, only to come back to life in a barn-find. This amazing car will likely be auctioned, and it could easily go for over $20,000,000.

In the photo below we see Steve McQueen in front of his 911S, while filming Le Mans, and notice his Submariner, along his Persol sunglasses, with this tie-dyed shirt. Groovy Baby, Yeah!!!!

The photo below looks like a Rolex magazine ad, but I made it myself since I thought it looks really cool. Methinks if Rolex made ads like this, they would be much more inspirational than boring photos of just watches.

Perfectly Timeless Classics

Ironically, everything considered classic today was once considered to be modern. Few things have stood the test of time like Steve McQueen, a Porsche 911, and a stainless steel Rolex Submariner. The Porsche 911 ad below shows the same model Steve McQueen drove in the opening scene for Le Mans.

The Rolex ad below features the same Rolex Submariner 5512 model Steve McQueen wore in Le Mans. This vintage Rolex ad is soooo cool, and so unlike any Rolex magazine ad you would see today...

Tudor Heritage Black Bay Black

...Tudor Model Introduction...

Tudor Heritage Black Bay Black

Today, Tudor, which is owned by Rolex, introduced an AMAZING new model named The Black Bay Black, which pays homage to the vintage 1954 Tudor Submariner. This new model is amazing on so many different levels! It has a definite vintage look, and creates the opportunity for many people to own a beautiful vintage looking Rolex for around $3500.
The Tudor Black Bay Black is the third in a series of Tudor Heritage Black Bay models, with Tudor originally introducing the Red, and Blue bezel versus first.

Rolex Coolness: Larry Ellison 2010 & 2013 America's Cup Winner with Team Oracle

...Rolex Coolness...

Larry Ellison

The $44 Billion Man

2010 & 2013 America's Cup Winner with Team Oracle
Stainless Rolex Submariner

Larry Ellison is the founder and CEO of Oracle as well as being the sixth wealthiest man in the world with a net worth of $44 Billion. $44 Billion!!!! That makes the $6 Million dollar man sound like chump-change :-)

Larry is also the captain of Team Oracle which won the 2010 America's Cup in sailing, and in 2013 brought the American's Cup to San Francisco, and won the 2013 America's Cup in Race 19, which is the oldest trophy in world sport!!!

You can watch the 19th Race of the America's Cup, which took place on September 25, 2013 on San Francisco Bay, which is likely the most beautiful sailing regatta amphitheater in the world.

A few weeks prior to the 2013 America's Cup Final, I took some photos on San Francisco Bay of Team Oracle and Team New Zealand, which I published on Jake's Streets Of San Francisco World, including the one below.

The Greatest Comeback In Sports History
34Th America's Cup
San Francisco 2013

In 2013, Larry Ellison's Oracle Team U.S.A. staged what is probably the greatest and most spectacular comeback in the history of sports, where team Oracle came back from an 8-1 losing deficit, to win 8 straight races to capture the 2013 America's Cup. America' Cup is the most prestigious and sought after sailing regatta awards in the world of sailing.

1969 Rolex America's Cup Submariner Ad
The Rolex Submariner is "A Big Tough Watch"
Single Red Submariner [Reference 1680]

It is amazing to compare the difference between the 72 feet tall catamarans that are now being raced in the Americas Cup, and comparing them to the sailboats used in 1969, as seen in this vintage Rolex Submariner ad. It is also fascinating to notice the design of the Rolex Submariner has barely changed at all.

Talk about timeless design. Now the price is a different subject. A Rolex Submariner cost $205 in 1969, and 46 years later they cost around $8,000. The most interesting financial statistic, is the watch featured for $205 in 1969, today is worth around the same price as a brand new stainless steel Rolex Submariner, at around $8,000.

Bond v. Bond Imitation Is The Highest Form Of Flattery

The Official Trailer for the upcoming James Bond movie named SPECTRE was just released, and you can see it below. SPECTRE hits theaters on November 6, 2015!!!

Bond v. Bond
Imitation Is The Highest Form Of Flattery

I have been working on a huge update to my "Complete History Of James Bond Watches—The Definitive Guide", and when I came across the following image of Sean Connery wearing his Rolex Submariner, it jogged my memory and made me remember a similar posed beach shot with Daniel Craig.

And by the way, since the Queen has been calling Sean Connery, "Sir" he's still looking pretty cool on the beach. In the photo below we see Sir Sean Connery in a recent Louis Vuitton photo shot by Annie Leibovitz.

In the photo below we see Sean Connery with Ursula Andress on the set of the 1962 James Bond Mega-hit entitled, Dr. No., and Sean is sporting his Rolex Submariner.
