When you were young and your heart was an open book, you used to say 'Live & Let Live'...

Live & Let Die

Rolex Sawtooth Submariner

The Rolex Instagram page seems to be impressing a lot of people—including me—with the superb content they are generating. Today, Rolex put up this very special Rolex Submariner on the Official Rolex Instagram page, which it titled:

"This is a pretty sharp watch. A Submariner with a special spin. Customized in 1973, it features a unique rope-cutting, villain-escape function."

Below is the amazing Rolex History behind this one-of-a-kind Rolex Sawtooth Submariner. It was originally published on November 8, 2015:

James Bond
LIVE & LET DIE

Iconic Rolex Submariner

Sells For $363,000!!!!

Specialized Unique Reference 5513

James Bond and Rolex are both extremely iconic brands. In 1973 when Roger Moore took over as James Bond, his first Bond movie was Live and Let Die, and he wore a Rolex Submariner Reference 5513 as seen in the photos below.

Rogers Moore is pictured above and below with the gorgeous Jane Seymour, who co-stared with him in Live and Let Die. This watch that sold at auction is NO ordinary Rolex Submariner, even though it appears to be in these photos. The watch was highly customized for the movie, as you can see lower in this story.

The James Bond Movie, Live and Let Die was an EXTREMELY successful movie at the Box Office. The scenes in this movie that featured his special Rolex Submariner are deeply ingrained in many peoples minds, which is arguably why this highly iconic sold for so much!

As previously mentioned, Rogers Moore's Rolex Submariner was highly customized, and it included a spinning bezel with sharp teeth that could cut through rope, as seen in the screen shots from Live and Let die—pictured above and below.

The sketches below show the Syd Cain's conceptual schematics for this unique "James Bond Rolex Submariner."  Last time, in 2011 this watch was auctioned for around $200,000, but four short years later, it almost doubled in price!!!

In the movie Bond used the Magnetic Field Generator to unzip Madeline Smith's dress. Roger Moore said, "Sheer magnetism, darling." The prop watch had special hole in it that held the very fine wire that was used to "invisibly" unzip Miss Smith's dress as seen below:

The photo below shows the inside of the watch. The fan blades inside the case were added so that when compressed air was blown inside the watch, as a special effect, it caused the Submariner bezel to rotate and simulate the spinning saw blade. Ironically, in order to get the fan blade element in the watch, they had to remove the movement altogether.

You can learn much more about the history of this watch in my 13 Part Story named The Complete History Of James Bond Watches.

So Paul McCartney leaves the Beatles and starts a new band called "Wings", and writes a little song which is equally iconic to any Beatles song.

You know the super-iconic words by McCartney:

When you were young and your heart was an open book
You used to say live and let live!
(you know you did, you know you did you know you did!)
But if this ever changing world in which we're living
Makes you give in and cry

Say live and let die
Live and let die
Live and let die
Live and let die

What does it matter to ya
When you got a job to do
You gotta do it well
You gotta give the other fellow hell

When you were young and your heart was an open book
You used to say live and let live
(you know you did, you know you did you know you did)
But if this ever changing world in which we're living
Makes you give in and cry

Say live and let die
Live and let die
Live and let die
Live and let die
