It's hard to believe, but I am still working on my 50th Anniversary of the Rolex SEA-DWELLER story!?!! Why? Because the 50th Anniversary SEA-DWELLER is everything I hoped the 50th Anniversary Submariner would have been, but wasn't. I find it ironic that the Rolex SEA-DWELLER was the bigger son of the Submariner, but with the 50th Anniversary SEA-DWELLER, it has far more Submariner DNA than ever. In other words, I believe the all-new SEA-DWELLER for 2017 is basically a 43MM Submariner. As soon as I am done with my 50th Anniversary of the Rolex SEA-DWELLER story, I will cover all the other watches from BaselWorld, but in the meantime, here is another great video that from Hodinkee that covers some of the key BaselWorld 2017 Rolex new watch models:
I've been a big fan of Hodinkee.com for a long time now, and it is great to see how much Benjamin Clymer has grown Hondinkee, with such talented horological journalists. This video from BaselWorld 2017 covers some of the new Rolex watches. I realize this may sound strange, but two things that stood out to me are:
1. How amazing Cara Barrett's new Ceramic stainless steel Black Dial Daytona looks on her wrist. I have to admit, that when I saw the new black dial Rolex Daytona I was not crazy about it, but seeing it in the flesh on Cara's wrist it looks AMAZING!!!!!! Of course, I love seeing women wearing larger 40MM watches!!!
2. I usually don't get very excited about the way dudes are dressed, but I have to say that I think Arthur Touchot's pocket square looks so cool. It is interesting that if he wore the exact same outfit with the turtle neck and sport coat, it would have looked good, but that paisley pocket square ads a hyper-elegant touch. Very cool!!!
Historically Rolex has always been extremely secretive and discreet, and no journalists in the past have ever been invited "INSIDE ROLEX" to explore and report on all four Rolex Manufacturing faclities in Switzerland.
In November 2013, this changed when Rolex invited Jake to take an unprecdented journey into the heart of Rolex to learn and report on everything he witnessed and learned.
This Super-Detailed 3 Part Story is a "MUST READ" story for anybody who wants to understand what really makes Rolex tick.
