1961 Ferrari California Sets World Record For Most Expensive Car Selling for $11 Million!!!

Collectables are getting more collectable as the days go by.  This 1961 Ferrari California Convertible is one of only 33 ever made and just set a new world record as the most expensive car to ever sell at $10,976,000.  

If the Ferrari California Convertible was a watch, I think it would be this Vintage Paul Newman Daytona which is also worth a fortune and quickly appreciating.  Of course the greatest thing they have in common is they are both legends based on California icons.

Ferrari is just about to reintroduce the Ferrari California Convertible in 2009.

For some reason the "Ferrari Red Rolex Datyona" below reminds me of the upcoming Ferrari California Convertible in a Speed Racer kind of way.  Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go!!!!!

I Spy a Rolex GMT on Bill Cosby & Robert Culp...

Both Bill Cosby and Robert Culp wore Pepsi GMTs on the 1960s TV Series, I Spy.

Bill Cosby is a huge Rolex Collector and has worn Rolex watches longer than just about anybody.  The only person I can think of who has been wearing Rolex watches longer than Bill Cosby is Chuck Yeager.

In the future we are going to be taking a much deeper look into Bill Cosby's Rolex Collection.  

You've got to love this stuff!!!

Dear Jake:

I´m a Rolex fan from Argentina, and I have discovered your GREAT Blog just a few days ago. It´s amazing the quantity and quality of info you've got here!! Congrats for a Great job, made with real Love and knowledge.

About the I Spy TV series, of which I used to be a real fan in my youth (I´m 60 now, and my first Rolex was a no date Submariner, my 18th birthday present from my parents, given to me in 1966).

I specially recall one particular episode, in which our heroes were taken to spy near the sea, and were forced to swim.

One of them (I don´t remember now whom) had his GMT Rolex flooded, and during one of their usually long parlaments, promised to file a complaint with the Factory for the failure! I suspect it was their culprit because he had forgotten to completely screw the watch crown.

I remember well that episode, because my fanatical point of view towards Rolex since my young days, and couldn´t believe that incident in the film script. Anyway it was very funny to see their upset dialogue about that GMT dissaster.

Extremely Rare White Rolex Submariner

Questionable Authenticity

Alert: It has come to our attention after publishing this story that the authenticity of this watch is questionable. This information comes from a highly reliable source. 

We are currently investigating the authenticity of this watch and as soon as we conclude we will let you know.

This is an Extremely Rare Stainless Steel Rolex Submariner Reference 5508 (Movement Number Cal. 1530 (1560).  Made between 1958-1960.  Depth Rating of 330 Feet.   Not only does this watch have an extremely rare white dial but it also has the 3, 6 and 9 arabic numeral indices that are very similar to the Rolex Explorer.

It is really interesting to note how fascinating the early days of the Rolex Submariner were.  I say this because because in the early days before the Submariner moniker was used there was a lot of experimenting with dials, bezels and hands.  Then from the early 1960s up to 2004 there was no real variation. 

It was kind of like Henry Ford saying in the early days of the Ford Automobile company, "You can have a Ford in any color, as long as it is black."

Of course Rolex added the green bezel in 2004 to the LV Submariner, but that is rare.

I Really want one of these and I think it would look really cool on a black NATO Strap!!!

I am seriously thinking about the future and some cool features I am thinking about adding to Jake's Rolex Watch Blog.

I am thinking about doing a Podcast named Jake's Rolex Watch Talk Podcast.  This free podcast would involve me interviewing and having discussions with fellow Rolex Fanatics.  I could interview people who are Rolex fans and perhaps have some regulars on the show.  I have a bunch of Rolex Fanatic Pal's in mind.
