Rolex Fashion Shot of the Day: Uli's LV Submariner...

Green On Green

Uli's LV Rolex Submariner

If you are a reader of Jake's Rolex Watch you probably know the original Rolex 50th Anniversary LV Submariner is one of my favorite Rolex watches.

To my way of thinking The LV Submariner has the perfect balance of timeless Rolex design language and a colorful, charismatic vibe. I think the green bezel insert is fun, sporty, novel and aquatic–and I love the Maxi-Markers and Fat Hands. This is a really cool color combination–assuming you are not afraid of color.

Prototype Rolex 50th Anniversary LV Submariner

This is a Rolex press kit photograph of a prototype LV Submariner that was never sold.

You can tell it is a prototype because it has spring-bar holes on the outside of the lugs as you can see. The production model lacks the holes.

Rolex LV Submariner customized with a Black Bezel...

Black LV Submariner
Maxi-Markers Are Mucho-Macho

A reader just posted a comment in this post asking where they can get a black bezel insert to replace the green one on a first generation LV Submariner? It is pretty easy to find one. I think just about any watchmaker can get one and swap it. Just to be clear, the watch below in an LV Submariner, which originally came with a green bezel insert. People prefer the LV over the standard older Submariner, because it has Maxi-Markers and fat hands. Maxi-Markers are bold and Macho ;-)

If you think you want to get an LV and learn how to swap the colors, it would be much easier to purchase a bezel insert with a bezel and swap the entire bezel. Swapping bezel inserts is a pain, but swapping bezels is much easier.

The 7UP Submariner...

In 2004 Rolex introduced the 50th Anniversary Edition Submariner (Model Number: 16610 LV) .  LV stands for "Lunette Verde."  This is one of my favorite Rolex watches.  It is different than the standard Rolex Submariner in three ways:
  1. It has a metallic green bezel
  2. It has Maxi Marker Indices
  3. It has a fatter or wider minute hand
The LV sub has many nicknames which include the Kermit, the 7Up Sub and the Starbucks Sub.  We will be spending a lot of time studying this beauty.  I absolutely LOVE this photo of the 7UP Sub.  I think it flawlessly captures the essence of the watch:
