Our Youngest Reader: Kyle from New York (Age 13)

Our Youngest Reader
Kyle from New York [Age 13]

Kyle from New York first contacted me with this email:

"Dear Jake, I'm thirteen years old, and I want to say thank you for your wonderful blog. I read it daily, and I enjoy it very much. I would like to share a couple of pictures of my Rolex Explorer with you, and I took them myself. Thanks!" –Kyle

I was really moved when I first received Kyle's email. I first became aware of Rolex when I was 14 or so. I bought my first Rolex which was a Submariner when I was 16. I imagine when I was Kyle's age, if there had been an internet with Rolex.com, great Rolex forums, and Jake's Rolex Watch Blog, I would have probably discovered the amazing world of Rolex earlier.

When I was Kyle's age I collected coins and stamps but I simply had not been exposed to Rolex watches.  I believe the internet is amazing as a communication and collaboration medium, but most importantly for building communities and social networks like the Rolex online community of which we are all a part.

I was amazed at how great Kyle's photographs were. His composition skills are obviously great. I asked Kyle some questions and here are his answers. I asked him how he discovered Jake's Rolex Watch Blog, and he replied:

"I discovered you blog through many of the watch forums. They recommended your blog as a source of information and a good sourse for pictures. I agree. Your blog has so many pictures, and I learned a lot from your posts. I especially like the custom Rolex section."

Kyle continues:

"It was around September of 2008 when I first discovered Rolex. My mother was in the process of buying a Rolex for my father, and I thought, "Hey, if they can get one, why can't I?" I actually bought the Rolex myself, using money I have saved up over the years. I've owned it for about 5 months now, and I love it! I guess ever since the day I bought my Explorer, I've been hooked!"

Kyle took all these stunning Rolex photos and on behalf of all our international readership (Jake's Rolex Watch Blog is read in over 100 countries–internationally), Kyle I would like to thank you very much and encourage you to keep exploring the world of these mechanical masterpieces. Leo and I are very happy to have you as a reader. Thanks for sharing!!!!

Like Father Like Son

Kyle also shared this photo of his father's Rolex Date. Rolex watches are so well designed they will essentially last forever, if properly maintained. I think it is really neat that Kyle and his father both wear Rolex watches. Very cool!!!

Phil Collins Yachtmaster...

Phil Collins Yachtmaster

Amazing British singer/songwriter Phil Collins is seen in the photo below sporting his stainless steel and platinum Rolex Yachtmaster. Of course, Phil Collins started with the band Genesis and went on to have an ultra-successful solo career.

Since we just saw Pink Floyd perform in London in 2005 at Live 8, I thought I would take you back to London for the original Live Aid in 1985, almost a quarter of a century ago. Amazing performance and Phil is wearing a Platinum Day-Date which you get a great view of toward the end of the song (not to mention that mullet which is all business in the front, and party in the back ;-)

I included, this second video from the animated Tarzan movie which is just a really nice song. Enjoy:

An Italian Submariner

An Italian Submariner

Gianvittorio Molteni from Milan, Italy is a big fan of Jake's Rolex Watch Blog. He sent in the superb photo of his vintage Rolex Submariner [Reference 5513] from 1964, which is all original with the gilt dial and domed crystal twin crown. He mentioned that his friend and talented photographer Luciano Cipullo took this great photo.

Thanks for sending in this great shot Gianvittorio!!!

By the way, I think this is the same Rolex Reference 5513 that Steve McQueen is wearing in the photos below this post.

Vintage Rolex Submariner Ad...

I think this ad is from the late 1970s or early 1980s. It is amazing how timeless Rolex watch design is!!!

A New Rolex Daytona Face...

A Beautiful New Face

A few weeks ago we saw an all new Big Number Daytona dial on a white gold Rolex Daytona. Today we see the same dial for the yellow gold version.

This is one seriously good looking dial with the red, white, black and gold. Also notice there are very, very small red markers every five minutes.
