An international secret society of Rolex collectors recently met in New York City for the RollieFest, and we see the pass above in a photo which was taken by @gsbrown3. 

What exactly is the RollieFest? It is an annual invitation-only event for highly esteemed vintage Rolex collectors, and is not sanctioned or affiliated with Rolex SA in any way. In other words, it's kind of an under-the-radar event by Rolex fanatics, for Rolex fanatics...put on by renowned Rolex collector, Geoffrey Hess...

In the recent photo below we see legendary actors, Brad Pitt and Sylvester Stallone hanging out together and Stallone is rockin' his stainless steel Pepsi GMT-Master on a Jubilee bracelet. It really seems like Rolex breathed new life into the Jubilee bracelet by making it the exclusive bracelet for the new stainless Pepsi GMT-Master, and it looks fantastic!!!

Rolex did one of the strangest things I have ever witnessed when they discontinued the Pepsi GMT-Master back in 2005, but Rolex brought back the Pepsi last year when they reintroduced it at Baselworld to amazing accolades!!!

Talk Tudor in Los Angeles

Tudor recently released this interesting video that features Tudor brand Ambassadors, Lady Gaga and David Beckham talking about their lives.

Green is Rolex's primary color in their logo, and I could not help but notice that both Lady Gaga and David Beckham both have green eyes!?!! This is so rare, as only green eyes are really rare. As a matter of fact, only 2% of the human population has green eyes...

The video interview between Lady Gaga and David Beckham was filmed in the famous Sheats-Goldstein Residence in Los Angeles, which is know for its fascinating modern architecture and views as seen below in the photo from NPR's Jeff Green.

I am not only a designer, but a design fanatic of the highest order, which is why I have always loved Rolex so much. I am also a huge fan of Architecture, and publish Jake's Architecture World. I have been meaning to do story on the Sheats-Goldstein house which was designed by John Lautner, who in the mid-1930s was an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright, so here are some great videos that offer a superb topographical understanding of this amazing piece of residential property with crazy view of the Los Angeles basin.

This week marks the two-year anniversary of the most famous vintage watch auction, the Paul Newman Daytona, which reached a record $17 million. I thought, why not mark the event with Rolex's most recent Daytona release, the Baselworld 2019 reference 116588, an absolute stunner that I was able to hold on its first day.

The Rolex Daytona is the world’s most recognizable sports watch. A year after the surprise release of the Rainbow Daytona, Rolex surprises us again with this model, showcasing Rolex's skills, talent and knowledge as a jeweler. 

For the new piece, Rolex replaced the tachymeter scale on the bezel with 36 trapeze-cut diamonds, and decorated the dial with swirls of black lacquer surrounded by 243 diamonds set in a snake-like pattern. There are eight diamond markers set in yellow gold. Look closer and you can see the 15, 30 and 45 markers in gold Arabic numerals. 

The watch was quickly nicknamed the 'Eye of the Tiger' by our friends at Revolution Watch, and it caught on. 

Each stone is invisibly set, meaning they appear to be securing one another—and that, in fact, is more or less the case.

After the Rolex representative handed me the Daytona and gave me a run down of the watch's specs, she simply concluded with the dial: "And the dial... the dial speaks for itself."

Indeed! I held the watch, and its design immediately played tricks on my brain. Here was the most recognizable sports watch in the world—in the most luxurious setting. Rolex decided to put the watch on a black Oysterflex adding to its sportiness. Then the 243 diamonds sparkle; the gold shines amazingly under the Rolex pressroom lights. And your brain is convinced no one does the combination, nay, the perfect balance, of sports and luxury better than Rolex.

Some say Instagram was made for watch lovers. Rolex's account, which has garnered 10 million followers, is just beautiful. Maybe it's the engineer in me, but I love the quick animation posts showing the inner-workings of the watch that Rolex sometimes shares on Instagram. I was able to pull some of my favorites and display them here.

Take a look at the Perpetual rotor self-winding mechanism, which is one of the 400 innovations patented by Rolex in the last 90 years. When Rolex watches have solid case backs, it is nice to see this:

Below is the Rolex silicon hairspring in action: 

I also love the animation of the vertical clutch of the Daytona. It works on the principle of friction contact between two discs, like the clutch in a car:

Below is the Triplock winding crown of a GMT-Master II, which has three sealed zones fitted with high-performance gaskets:

Another Rolex invention is the gas escape valve for the Sea-Dweller. It allows the helium trapped in the watch to be released at a given pressure during decompression. It is a one-way safety valve:

The very comfortable, yet robust Oysterflex. This animation shows the superlastic metal blade inside the Oysterflex:

The Rolex Deepsea can resist massive pressure exerted by water at the depth of 3,900 metres (12,800 feet), equivalent to a weight of about four tonnes on the watch:

Finally, let's take a look at the perpetual calendar of the Sky-Dweller. A "satellite" wheel rotates and orbits a fixed "planetary" wheel in one month. One of the satellite’s fingers receives an additional impulse on the four 30-day months, making the calendar disc jump from the 30th to the 1st to display the correct date:
