The Rolex and National Geographic Perpetual Planet Amazon Expedition Along the Juruá River

The Rolex and National Geographic

Perpetual Planet Amazon Expedition

Along the Juruá River

Rolex supports its Perpetual Planet Initiative partner, the National Geographic Society, in a series of trailblazing expeditions and scientific studies of the Amazon River basin. This incredible expanse is one of the most important biomes on Earth, providing an astonishing amount of our freshwater and a home to thousands of species of fish.

2019 Rolex Awards for Enterprise Laureate João Campos-Silva and his research partner and fellow National Geographic Explorer Andressa Scabin are collaborating with local communities on the Amazon’s Juruá River. There, the team investigates the lives of aquatic animals such as giant turtles and manatees, while developing a conservation model that puts community at its heart. From this, they will help build a sustainable and fair future for the river and all that call it home.

So You Thought You Were A Rolex Fanatic!?!!

So You Thought You Were A Rolex Fanatic!?!!

Hi, my name is Lamborghini and I am a Rolex fanatic of the highest order... I stumbled into this image randomly on the internet and I was stunned. I have a couple of takeaway points. First, is the fact the cost of the seventeen Rolex watches on this Lamborghini steering wheel is probably about the cost of the car itself.

Secondly, I am thinking it probably took the person who set up this photo a long time to carefully remove the screws from these watches and then rescrew them to the steering wheel, then take them all of and rescrew them all again. Third, it is interesting to notice every one of these Rolex watches is gold, and there are no stainless steel Rolex watches. Fourth, all the Rolex watches in this photo are stock and have not been modified in any way...

Tony Bennett Belongs To The Ages

Tony Bennett

Belongs To The Ages

Tony Bennett passed away at age of 96, and left behind an amazing legacy and songbook. Tony is pictured below in a 2001 Rolex Magazine ad with Diana Krall. One thing Tony Bennett and Rolex have in common is they are both super iconic and timeless...

Like many people, my favorite Tony Bennett song is I Left My Heart in San Francisco:

Wikipedia summed up Tony Bennett's career:

Anthony Dominick Benedetto (August 3, 1926 – July 21, 2023), known professionally as Tony Bennett, was an American jazz and traditional pop singer. He amassed many accolades, including 20 Grammy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and two Primetime Emmy Awards. Bennett was named an NEA Jazz Master and a Kennedy Center Honoree and founded the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, Queens, New York. He sold more than 50 million records worldwide and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

 ROLEX DAY-DATE DATE CHANGE

Rolex posted this amazing Instagram short video of a  Platinum ice-blue Day-Date striking midnight. I was able to turn 10 seconds of the video into the highest quality GIF possible. I love how the day and date change simultaneously and instantly at midnight in their respective windows.

Lloyd Bridges: SEA-HUNT Submariner...

...Rolex Super Coolness...

Lloyd Bridges

SEA-HUNT Submariner

Rolex has been part of the Life Aquatic from day one, and was also a visible icon in early popular TV shows like Flipper, as well as on the wrist of scuba diving pioneer, Jacques-Yves Cousteau.

Lloyd Bridges was a very successful actor who stared in TV shows and in over 140 films. He was also a life-long Rolex wearer. In the screen grab above from SEA-HUNT we see Lloyd rocking his Submariner with a Fred Perry polo shirt with a popped-up collar back in the late 1950s, and in the photo below we see him several decades later, still wearing a Rolex Submariner.

Above photo of Lloyd Bridges appears courtesy of Wayne Williams

Jeff & Lloyd Bridges pictured above in 1951

Lloyd Bridges' son's Beau and Jeff Bridges are pictured below with their mother Dorothy, and father Lloyd. This photo was taken in the mid 1960s, and you notice Lloyd is wearing his trademark Rolex Submariner.

Lloyd Bridges stared on the TV show SEA-HUNT as the American scuba-diving adventurer, Mike Nelson from 1958 to 1961. During its 4 season run, SEA-HUNT filmed 155 episodes and was about the adventures of a scuba-diver named Mike Nelson who was an retired U.S. Navy Frogman who became a freelance diver.

One of the unique characteristics of the SEA-HUNT was that at the end of every episode, Lloyd Bridges would ask his viewers to help protect and preserve the oceans of the world.

On the two following magazine covers from 1960, we see Lloyd Bridges wearing a Rolex Oyster bracelet.

Lloyd Bridges was so into scuba-diving, he ended up doing most of the stunts on underwater stunts on SEA-HUNT. Many famous actors began their careers including Larry Hagman (Dallas), Robert Conrad (The Wild Wild West) Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek) and Jack Nicholson.

Lamar Boren did the underwater cinematography and went on to work on other Ivan Tors' productions which included the TV show Flipper as well as three James Bond movies: Thunderball, You Only Live Twice and The Spy Who Loved Me.

Lloyd Bridges wore his Rolex Submariner as part of his aquatic lifestyle before Rolex even began marketing the Submariner the same way as we see in the ad below from 1965..

It appears to my eyes and research that Lloyd Bridges wore a Rolex Oyster Perpetual on an Oyster bracelet during some part of SEA-HUNT as seen below.

Lloyd Bridges went on to become a famous movie actor and is the father of fellow actor, Jeff Bridges.

Lloyd Bridges is pictured above with his wife, and below many years later wearing his trademark yellow gold Rolex Submariner.
