Carrie Fisher Belongs To The Ages

...A Rolex Princess...

Carrie Fisher

1956-2016

Carrie Fisher keeps popping into my head, and I still can't believe our super-iconic Rolex princess is gone. So I thought I would take a look back at her story I wrote just after she died. This article was originally published on December 27, 2016.

Man, this is hard to write. It feels like a part of me died, having learned that Carrie Fisher passed away today... Obviously, Carrie Fisher played Princess Leia in THE Seminal Science Fiction movie, Star Wars. This was like a double-whamy, considering that so many other famous icons have recently passed away in 2016 including George Michael, Nancy Reagan, Frank Sinatra Jr., Garry Handling, Alan Thicke, Glenn Frey, Muhammad Ali, Gene Wilder, Arnold Palmer, Merle Haggard, Morley Safer, Abe Vigoda, Edgar Mitchell, Prince, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Florence Henderson, John Glenn, Fidel Castro, David Bowie...

Carrie Fisher is pictured below with her then husband, Paul Simon, who is probably best know for his   band Simon & Garfunkel. Carrie Fisher is wearing her two-tone stainless steel and gold Rolex Ladies Datejust in the photo below.

Princess Leia
1977

Star Wars debuted in movie theaters in 1977 and completely blew everybody's mind. It was like NOTHING anybody had ever seen before.

As you probably know, or can tell, I am a Rolex fanatic of the highest order. I have worn a Rolex watch since I was 16 years old. When I was 14 or so, when I first became aware of Rolex, I was fascinated with the timeless and iconic design language behind Rolex. Ever since then, I have obsessed fanatically and passionately over Rolex.

I am also a Star Wars fanatic of the highest order. I saw Star Wars when it was originally released in 1977 in movie theaters. I was 11 years old at the time, so I was old enough to understand what was going on, but young and naive enough to completely immerse myself in the virtual reality of the movie. Star Wars was like NOTHING I, or anybody else had ever seen. It completely shocked me in a fantastic way, and was probably responsible for radically expanding the depth of my imagination. That is why, when I first found out Carrie Fisher had died, I was shocked!!! To me, Carrie Fisher was like a member of my family, that I grew up with, and knew well.

Empire Strikes Back
1980

The first two images pictured below show Carrie Fisher with Harrison Ford at an Empire Strikes Back press conference. In this first photo we get a very clear shot of Harrison Ford's stainless steel Rolex Datejust.

An Affair To Rember

On the Rolling Stone cover above, we see Harrison Ford wearing his Rolex Datejust, and in the image below we see Harrison kissing Cary Fisher, with Mark Hamill looking on. I remember Cary Fisher saying she and Harrison Ford had an affair offscreen, which obviously explains that look on her face below :-o

The screen grab below on the right is from the official Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer. I could not help but notice how similar, but opposite it looks to the picture above, of Harrison Ford hugging Carrie Fisher. In the photo above Harrison Ford is being engaged in a kiss by Carrie Fisher. In the photo below he is consoling her. Completely unrelated, but highly symbolic and fascinating nonetheless.

In the videos below Carrie Fisher talks about her affair with Harrison Ford. In the first video, Carrie Fisher is interview by Ellen DeGeneres, who is a huge Rolex fanatic, and we see here wearing a Rolex Professional watch in the video.

The Princess Diarist

Carrie Fisher's tell-all book, The Princess Diarist was published recently on November 22, 2016, and goes into great detail about her affair with Harrison Ford. At the time Harrison Ford was 14 years older than Carrie Fisher, and he was married with two children. In her book, she goes into great detail about how distant and aloof Harrison Ford was, when they weren't making love.

Their affair lasted 3 months while they were shooting the original Star Wars: A New Hope movie in London at Elstree Studios.

As is often the case, the backstory in just as interesting and intriguing as Star Wars itself. In other words, forty years later, learning about this backstory adds a completely different dimension to Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.

Keep in mind that NOBODY had any idea that Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford had an affair. So this recent revelation is on the one hand not surprising, but shocking at the same time. As previously mentioned, they were filming the first STAR WARS movie, that was titled STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE. Carrie Fisher referred to her affair with Harrison Ford as 'A 3-month-1-night stand.'

Return Of The Jedi

1983

The photo below shows Carrie Fisher on the set of Return Of The Jedi in 1982, hanging out wth production assistant Charles Wessler, and notice she is wearing her two-tone Rolex Datejust on her wrist.

Carrie Fisher is pictured below, taking a photo, in a photo from The New York Post that was taken on June 3, 1982. In this photos we get a very clear shot of her Rolex Jubilee Bracelet.

When Harry Met Sally

When people think of Carrie Fisher, the first thing that comes to mind is her role as Princess Leia, but her acting and screenplay writing skills took her far beyond Star Wars. Carrie Fisher was in the famous comedy movie, 'When Harry Met Sally' which stared Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan.

Postcards From The Edge

Carrie Fisher wrote the screenplay for the 1990 movie named 'Postcards From The Edge' which starred Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine, who are pictured below with Carrie Fisher. Postcards From The Edge was an autobiographical story about Carrie Fisher's life experience with her mother Debbie Reynolds. Notice Meryl Streep is also wearing a Rolex ladies Datejust model just like Carrie's, which makes sense as Meryl Streep played Carrie Fisher's character in the movie.

Star Wars

The Force Awakens

Official Trailer

Below is the official Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer for last years Mega Hit that Carrie Fisher reprised her role as Princess Leia in. On a positive note, Carrie Fisher completed filming all her scenes for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII, which is the ninth Star Wars movie, and which will appear in theaters in the future!!!

Debbie Reynolds

Dies Of Broken Heart

1 Day After Daughter Carrie Fisher

It has been said, there is nothing worse than a parent outliving their child. In an ironic twist of fate, Carrie Fisher's mother, Hollywood acting legend and icon, Debbie Reynolds died the day after Carrie Fisher.  An obvious question is whether or not Debbie Reynolds died of a broken heart? Her son Todd Fisher, who was Carrie's brother said, she talked about how much she missed Carrie, and then she died.

This reminds me of a mother/daughter story I would like to share with you. About ten years ago, I had a friend named Susan, who had a daughter named Angel, who was eight years old at the time. The three of us were hanging-out together and Susan was doting on her daughter Angel. Susan was telling Angel how much she loved her, and she told her to be careful. Then she said, "I love you so much Angel!!! If anything ever happened to you, I would just die!?!! I would follow you straight to Heaven." I remember thinking how beautiful Susan's love was for her daughter was, and it appears in this case that Debbie actually followed Carrie...Sad, but Sweet :-)(

Debbie Reynolds and her daughter Carrie Fisher are pictured below.  Debbie Reynolds appeared in many iconic movies like, "Singing In The Rain."

Todd Fisher is pictured above and below with his sister Carrie Fisher, and mother Debbie Reynolds.

Todd posted this image on Twitter just after his sister and mother passed away. The drawing imagines what they are up to now, and notice both of them are dressed in their most iconic movie outfits. Carrie as Princess Leia in Star Wars, and Debbie as Kathy Selden in her Singin' In The Rain attire:

The backstory was that Debbie Reynolds and her son Todd Fisher were working on the details of Carrie Fisher's funeral, and Debbie turned to her son Todd, and said, "I miss her so much. I want to be with Carrie." Within hours, Debbie Fisher had a stroke, and was gone. Notice in the drawing by Rick LaChance, that Debbie's figure has cast away her umbrella as she and Carrie are facing a bright light.
