Charlton Heston Rolex Advertisement...

...Rolex Coolness...

Charlton Heston
Academy Award Winner For Best Actor

It's that time of the year again; time for the Oscars! The 88th Academy Awards will be broadcast all over the world this evening, and it is interesting to note just how many past winners for Best Actor, Best Actress as well as Best Director wear Rolex.

There is a really fascinating story behind this Charlton Heston Rolex ad seen below. I originally learned about this Charlton Heston Rolex advertisement from T. Walker Lloyd who was a world renowned DEEP-SEA diver that ended up becoming a Rolex executive for 25 years.

In one of my podcast interviews with T. Walker, he told the story behind this Rolex ad, and I was surprised that I was not familiar with it and had never come across it. You can learn more about T. Walker Lloyd and check out the podcasts by clicking here.

Rolex President: Bill Clinton

A President Wearing A Rolex President

[42nd President Of The United States]

The history of the Rolex President is absolutely fascinating, and what is more interesting than seeing a U.S. President wearing a Rolex President? Bill Clinton is pictured below wearing his platinum Rolex President.

Speaking of President Clinton wearing Rolex, Hillary Clinton today is the front-runner for the Democratic Party in the U.S. Presidential race, and in the photo below we see her wearing her two-tone Rolex Lady Datejust...

Rolex Hotness: Ingrid Hoffman-LV Submariner...

...Rolex Super-Hotness...

Ingrid Hoffman
Rolex LV Submariner

Below are pictures of Ingrid Hoffman, the TV-star Chef wearing an LV 50th Anniversary Submariner [Men's] Rolex. From a man's perspective there is nothing sexier than a woman wearing a men's Rolex ;-)

Ingrid Hoffman is a Colombian/American television personality who hosts the Food Network Series named Simply Delicioso, as well as the Spanish-language cooking and lifestyle sow named Deliciouso which appears on GalavisiĆ³n. Ingrid is also a restaurateur.

50th Anniversary Rolex LV Submariner

People always ask me what my favorite Rolex watches is? The LV Submariner is definitely one of my favorite vintage Rolex watches. Rolex introduced the LV Submariner to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Rolex Submariner, and instead of putting a standard black bezel insert, they added the green bezel insert, which gives the watch a really fresh, cool look. The LV Submariner also represents the return of the Maxi markers that Rolex stopped making in the early 1980s. Maxi markers are much better, as they are more visible, and aquatic looking.

A gorgeous, stylish woman serving you warm, fresh-baked YUMMY cookies wearing an LV Rolex Submariner. Mama Mia!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ingrid Hoffmann is pictured below with Superstar Chef, Emeril Lagasse, who also wears Rolex watches.

Ingrid Hoffman can be seen in the video below sporting her LV Submariner, and as you see she is speaking Spanish.

David Bowie Departure

Saying Goodbye To Starman

David Bowie
1947-2016

Usually on Jake's Rolex World I am talking about vintage Rolex watches, or Magazine Ads, or something Rolex related, and I will ultimately end up taking about Rolex in this post, but first I want to share something personal with you.

When David Bowie passed away on January 10, 2016, I was completely stunned!!!?! I always thought David Bowie looked so great for his age, and like so many people his departure caught me off-gaurd. I grew up on so much great David Bowie music, and when I learned of his passing, it felt like a part of me died.

Ironically, on January 18, 2016, eight short days later, I learned that founding Eagles band member, Glen Frey passed away. Once again, I was shocked. I'll talk a little more about Glen Frey at the end of this article.

On February 4, 2016, I learned that NASA Apollo Astronaut, Dr. Edgar Mitchell passed-away. Dr. Mitchell is a fascinating character in Rolex history, because he wore two Rolex GMT-Master watches on his Apollo Mission to the Moon, which make him the sixth man to walk on the moon.

The photo above shows Dr. Mitchell as setting two Rolex GMT-Master watches, as he prepared to take off for the moon on his Apollo 14 Mission.

The photo above shows him wearing his Rolex GMT watches on Apollo 14. The photo below shows Dr. Mitchell after he returned from the Moon, and was being held in quarantine, while still wearing his Rolex GMT. In the photos below he is sorting through moon rocks he brought back.

On Feb 7, 2016, Audi aired an amazing Super Bowl 50 commercial for the Audi R8. The story line featured a long retired NASA Apollo Astronaut who is bored out of his mind, and his son takes him for a drive in his Audi R8, and causes him to Deja Vu out. I saw this commercial live during the Super Bowl, and it blew my mind when I heard David Bowie's Starman song begin playing in the background. It literally sent shivers down my spine.

Here is where things get really interesting and mysterious! Dr. Edgar Mitchell is featured below in 2013 giving a talk on UFOs. Dr. Mitchell went to his grave believing that UFO's are real as he articulates in the video below.

Back To Bowie

I included several David Bowie music videos below that feature some of my favorite Bowie songs.

I mentioned earlier in this article that Glen Frey's passing also shocked me. I was such a huge fan of The Eagles, and I remember when they got back together in 1994, after having been broken up for two decades for their "Hell Freezes Over" Concert Tour, tripping on how great Glen Frey looked. Glen Frey is featured in this video wearing the black t-shirt.

Ekaterina Gordeeva
1999 Rolex Magazine Ad

I have said many time before, that I find many vintage Rolex ads to be like works of art with some being more iconic or outstanding than others. I remember seeing this Rolex ad back in the late nineties and thinking how utterly beautiful and timeless it was.

Ekaterina Gordeeva is a Russian figure skater and two-time Olympic Champion in 1988 and 1994. You can see two of her amazing performances below from the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics.

Below is a great documentary that chronicles Ekaterina Gordeeva's career and tragic loss of the love of her life.
Below we see Ekaterina Gordeeva in a recent 2015 video, and she is still amazing!!!!

Academy Award Winning Actor & Director

Mel Gibson
Air America Movie (1990)
Pepsi Rolex GMT-Master

So I just watched Air America to get these screen grabs and it was a weird movie in the sense that it was supposed to take place in 1969 and the soundtrack was great, but the clothing, wardrobe and haircuts were totally 1990!?! Mel Gibson wore a Pepsi Rolex GMT-Master throughout the movie and many of the other actors were wearing Rolex watches in the movie.

Rolex Coolness: Sylvester Stallone

...Rolex Super-Coolness...

Sylvester Stallone

Keeping The Time Of His Life With Rolex

If you listened to the T. Walker Lloyd podcast interviews I believe he spoke about his experiences with Sylvester Stallone. Sly is pictured below sporting his yellow gold Rolex Submariner with the black dial and bezel in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Since the yellow gold Rolex has no nickname I am officially nicknaming it the "Sylvester Stallone Submariner."

The amazing original soundtrack for Rocky was written by Bill Conti and featured the Rocky theme song named, "Gonna Fly Now", which was the number 1 Billoward hit in 1976. You have to click the play button on the video below to get into the true spirit of this article...you know you wanna :-0

Rocky

Rocky is considered to be one of the best sports films ever made, and it debuted in 1976 to critical acclaim, which among other things inspired a worldwide fitness craze. Rocky is the story of Rocky Balboa who goes from being a small-time club fighter who gains the opportunity to fight for the world heavyweight championship. Rocky was made in 28 days, for a budget of a little more than $1 Million. It became the highest grossing film of 1976, and won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Rocky grossed $5 Million on its opening weekend, and for the North American box office did a total of $117 Million, which adjusted for inflation would be close to $500 Million at 2016 prices. Rocky did just as well internationally In 1976, having grossed $107 Million. Rocky was a "Knockout" success!!!!

Rocky has had six sequels to date, with Rocky II (1979), Rocky III (1982), Rocky IV (1985), Rocky V (1999), Rocky Balboa (2006), and most recently, Creed (2015). Sylvester Stallone wrote the first five sequels and played Rocky Balboa in all six sequels.

Rocky III

The Photo below was taken during Rocky III in 1982, and in it we see Sylvester Stallone wearing his yellow gold Rolex Submariner. When Stallone was younger, he tended to wear his Rolex Submariner on his right wrist, Steve McQueen style. In later years, would switch to wearing his Rolex watches on his left wrist.

Speaking of Mr. T and Rolex; below is a photo of Mr. T wearing his blinged-out Rolex President.

Stayin' Alive 1983

The Photos below of Sylvester Stallone and John Travolta were taken during the filming of Stayin' Alive, which was the follow-up sequel to the mega-hit, Saturday Night Fever. Sylvester Stallone wrote and directed Stayin' Alive.

Rockin' A Rolex President

In the following series of photos below, we see Sylvester Stallone wearing a Yellow Gold Rolex Day-Date "President."

In the photo above, we see Sylvester Stallone with legendary boxer, Ray "Boom-Boom" Mancini."

Ronald Reagan & Sylvester Stallone

Two California Classics

Sylvester Stallone is pictured below with his wife at the time, Briget Nielsen at a White House party with then U.S. President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan.

Who You Callin' Girlyman!?!

Sly is pictured below with the Gubernator, and notice Arnold Schwarzenegger is wearing his yellow gold Rolex Mocha GMT on a Jubilee. Rolex seriously needs to bring back the brown bezel and dial on the yellow gold GMT Master–it was a superb color combination!!!

The photo below shows Sylvester Stallone holding his wife, Bridgette Nielsen up in the air on Long Island in 1987. The photo was taken by Herb Ritts, and if you look closely you can see Sly is wearing his Rolex Submariner.

The Contender
2005-2007

Sylvester Stallone co-starred in an early reality TV show named The Contender, and in the photo below we see hime wearing a stainless steel Rolex Submariner while standing next to his brother, Frank Stallone, and boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard. I remember former Rolex USA executive, T. Walker Lloyd talking about his relationship with Sylvester Stallone, as well as his brother Frank Stallone in a podcast interview I did wit him back in 2008.

Sugar Ray Leonard is pictured below wearing his Platinum Rolex Day-Date, and he also wears a bunch of other Rolex models.

Sly's Black-Out Concept Rolex Daytona

In the below from 2011, we see Sylvester Stallone wearing his customized Black-Out Concept Rolex Daytona.

Sly's Rolex DEEP SEA

In the recent photos below, we see Sylvester Stallone wearing his Rolex DEEPSEA SEA-DWELLER.

In the photo above we see Sylvester Stallone wearing his Rolex DEEPSEA, standing next to filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, who interviews him in the video below, which I highly recommend watching!!!

CREED 2015

Sylvester Stallone recently starred in a new movie named CREED, which is based on Rocky, and Stallone is currently up for the Academy Award for Best Costar. He also won the 2016 Golden Glob Award for Best Supporting Actor. In the first photo below, we see Sylvester Stallone with Mr. T in a photo shot during Rocky III.

In this next photo from 2015, we see Sylvester Stallone wearing the same vintage yellow Gold Rolex Submariner he was wearing in the photo above.

The photo below shows boxer Oscar De-La-Hoya with Sylvester Stallone, and if if you look closely at Sly's Rolex, you can see the Nipple indices that confirms it is a vintage Rolex Submariner.

White Gold Pepsi Rolex GMT-Master

In the photos below we see Sylvester Stallone in recent photos showing off his White Gold Pepsi Rolex GMT-Master.

The photo below shows the bejeweled white gold Rolex GMT-Master model that Sylvester Stallone is wearing.
