...Rolex Super Coolness...

Matt Farah
Debut of The Car Show on SPEED Tonight

Regular RolexMagazine.com readers know I'm a certified car nut. I was checking out video of the Aston Martin Rapide on TheSmokingTire.com last night when I was reminded, the host, Matt Farah, wears a Rolex LV SubMariner.

Matt Farah has been producing automotive web programs for quite a few years with Garage 419 and TheSmokingTire.com. He's now one of the co-hosts (along with Adam Carolla, Dan Neil and John Salley) of The Car Show which premieres tonight on the SPEED network, and it looks Pretty Good!!! Pretty Good!!! It may even be as good as the British version of Top Gear ;-P

Clearly Matt appreciates the finer things. Great cars and GREAT watches!!!

Magrette Moana Pacific Diver Review

Magrette Moana Pacific Diver Review

It is pretty rare I write a review about watches other than Rolex, Patek Philippe or Panerai, and that is because they are my favorite brands.

I also really like some Magrette watches, and today we are going to take a look at the Magrette Moana Pacific Diver. If you are a daily reader of Jake's Rolex World, you may recall in the past I wrote a few other reviews about outstanding Magrette watches.

I really like Magrette because they remind me of the original Panerai watches that were made by Rolex–in particular, their design language is reminiscent of the Panerai, Small Egiziano, which is my favorite vintage Panerai.

The Magrette Moana Pacific Diver combines the design language of the Small Egiziano Panerai made in the mid 1950s, with a spinning diving bezel, which gives it a really cool, old-school, retro look I really like.

Dion, the owner and designer at Magrette decided to give his Diver a twist, by making the markers on the bezel insert yellow, and he also made the markers on the dial in yellow lume, as well as the Magrette, and Moana Pacific designation. You can't really see it that well in my photos, but there is also some red on the dial.

As you can see in the photos, the Magrette Moana Pacific Diver comes with a beautiful custom textured leather strap with red stitching. It also comes with a rubber diving strap which you can see in the last photo in this article.

The Magrette Moana Pacific Diver is made in New Zealand and costs $485, plus $30 for worldwide shipping. This is a great value for a watch that has a 21 jewel (Myota 8215) automatic movement, which keeps superb time, and is very sturdy. The stainless steel Diver is 44mm, and has brushed sides with a polished finish on the face, crown and bezel.

The Magrette Moana Pacific Diver feature a large screw-down crown which is slightly recessed into the case (not shown) and it's water resistance is rated down to 500M/1650Feet, which is definitely very deep. One of the design characteristics I really like, is the watch has a fat case with a flat-back that does not have a bubble-back, so it sits beautifully on your wrist as you can see in the photo above.

In my mind, this low profile look gives the watch a macho look that is also very streamlined and clean. It is also very, very comfortable.

The photo below shows the Magrette Moana Pacific Diver with the rubber strap that is included with the leather strap. This watch is a limited edition and Magrette is only making 500 pieces. You can find out much more and purchase the watch here. I have had this watch for some time now, and have worn it quite a bit. Overall I am very impressed with this watch!!!
