Carmel, California GTG August 7th, 5pm

Update: Event is Sold-Out, but if you are still interested, you can contact Sheldon to be put on the waiting list if others cancel.

Update Details for
Carmel By The Sea Rolex GTG
August 7th, 5pm

Hi Everybody!!!

Sheldon Smith of Minus4Plus6.com and I have organized the second San Francisco Rolex GTG and this time it will be taking place in Carmel, California the week before the Pebble Beach Concourse d' Elegance on August 7th, 2009.

When: Friday, August 7th at 5pm.
Where: Carmel, California
Cost: $40 Per Person + Drinks.

All are welcome to attend and have a great time discussing watches as well as see some extremely rare Rolex watches. There is always great discussion and commentary as well as a great dinner. If you are not familiar with the term, GTG stands for Get Together.

Update:

This is Truly going to be an event of historic proportions. We will have on display, some of the rarest Rolex watches on earth including the actual Rolex DEEP-SEA SPECIAL that Jacques Piccard had attached to the outside of his Bathyscaphe Trieste when he set the absolute world depth record in 1960 when he traveled to the bottom of the Marianis Trench (35,800 Feet) in the Pacific Ocean. (This extremely rare watch and historic watch is rarely seen in public).

This event will also have four of the most coveted Rolex dive watches in history, including Jacques Verpeaux's JANUS IV COMEX SEA-DWELLER as well as the original SINGLE-RED SEA-LAB SEA-DWELLER and a Patent Pending 1665 Double Red.

Eric Ku, of 10PastTEN.com will emcee the event walking us through the various vintage models. After the viewing, we will go to dinner to share Rolex stories. (Kind of like Summer Camp with ghost stories, except Rolex stories for Rolex enthusiasts.)

We have a reserved private meeting room as well as a special menu, and everyone covers their own meals and drinks. Dinner should be appoximately $40/person.

The event is limited to 40 people, including spouses. To RSVP or learn more, please contact Sheldon Smith: sheldon@minus4plus6.com

World's Funniest Rolex Photo!!!

World's Funniest Rolex Photo

Richard, who goes by Bisquitlips on RolexForums.com took this photo of his dog wearing what appears to be a two-tone Rolex Yachtmaster as a necklace. I knew Richard uses this photo for his avatar on RolexForums.com but I didn't realize, until I saw it full size that his chiwawa dog is wearing a Rolex as a necklace.

People take some pretty creative photos with their Rolex watches, but I must admit this is definitely the funniest photo I have ever published on Jake's Rolex Watch Blog!!! Also, Biquitlips is a pretty funny name!!! Thanks for putting a smile on our faces Richard!!!

P.S. Notice the Coke Zero on the counter?

Season 1 [Episode 5: Calderone's Demise]
Original Air Date: October 26, 1984

I finally remembered to post Miami Vice Monday on Monday!!! It took me five episodes to do so, but here it is. Tom from Belgium sending in that great shot of his Rolex Submariner in front of his Ray Ban Wayfarers definitely helped me remember. This is a great episode!!!

Rolex Studio Shot of the day: Timeless Classics...

Timeless Classics

Tom from Belgium sent in this excellent photo of his Rolex Submariner in front of his Ray Ban Wayfarers.

Tom wrote "I have been reading your blog for a while now and it's great! This weekend, my soon-to-be wife, gave me a pre-wedding present: a Rolex Submariner 14060m. I simply love it! In my eyes it's the nicest of the modern sport Rolex watches. A while ago I saw a topic on Ray Ban Wayfarers on your blog, this inspired me to take this picture I would like to share with your readers."

Tom, on behalf of the readers of Jake's Rolex Watch Blog, I would like to congratulate you on your up-and coming-wedding. Your future wife has excellent and very thoughtful taste!!! Thanks for sending in the great shot!!!

Presidential Watch Sunday: An Unprecedented Look At The Presidency

Presidential Watch Sunday
An Unprecedented Look At The Presidency

"Life's battles don't always go to the stronger or faster man; but sooner or later the man who wins is the man who thinks he can." –Vince Lombardi

Welcome to the seventh installment of Presidential Watch Sunday. I would like to thank the White House and Pete Souza (The Official White House Photographer) for giving us unprecedented access to photos of the United States Presidency.

Football

This first photo shows President Obama sitting in a White House meeting while holding on to a football. President Oboma is a big sports fan. He not only loves watching professional athletics but also loves playing sports.

In this next photo we see President Obama taking a break in the White House Rose Garden and throwing around the football.

This next photo is interesting because President Obama loves throwing around the football whenever he gets the chance. There is something really therapeutic about playing catch with any ball, whether it is a baseball, football or even a water-polo ball.

In this next photo we see President Obama walking through the door from the Oval Office to find his secretary trying on a Pittsburgh Steelers Football helmet. It looks like they have a lot of fun in the Obama White House and I think that is great. I also think that is really kind of the point of life–is to have fun!!!

Basketball

Next we see President Obama shooting hoops. President Obama is an avid basketball player and in this shot we see the President blocking a shot.

Rolex At Wimbledon Since 1978

Rolex.com has changed their site with a Wimbledon special that has some great features on Roger Federer. Check it out...

I Spy Saturday Season 1 [Episode 11 : The Weight Of The Worl

I Spy Saturday
Season 1 [Episode 11 : The Weight Of The World]
Original Air Date: November 17, 1965

This episode of I Spy was just o.k. Not nearly as good as last week although there are some decent Rolex shots. In the beginning, Bill Cosby does his what is now trademark Bill Cosby riffing which is neat, since we now take it for granted.

Also, the episode was shot live in Japan which gives it a different vibe.

The King Is Dead...

The King Is Dead
Michael Jackson Belongs To The Ages

Michael Jackson, the King Of Pop, slipped away yesterday as he prepared for a comeback tour. Michael was only 50 years old, and now belongs to the ages. My pal, Eric Ku summed it up best on Twitter when he said "We will all miss you MJ. A piece of my childhood has died today."

Michael Jackson's 1982 album Thriller which featured megahits, Beat It, Billie Jean and Thriller is the best selling album of all time selling 50 million copies internationally. Michael Jackson experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in his life, and he left a musical legacy that touches us all. Long Live The King!!! The Beat Goes On!!!

Flipper Friday Season 1 [Episode 10: My Brother Flipper]

Flipper Friday
Season 1 [Episode 10: My Brother Flipper]
Original Air Date: November 24, 1964

It is amazing how different the world of 1964 seems compared to the world of today. As Barbra Streisand sings: "Can it be that it was all so simple then, or has time re-written every line?" I realize the Coral Key Marine Preserve was fictional, but it sure seems cool...

I love this style with the duaphine hands and it kind of has a Thunderbird vibe with that bezel and the Jubilee bracelet.

Presidential Watch Sunday: An Unprecedented Look At The Presidency...

Presidential Watch Sunday
An Unprecedented Look At The Presidency

The important thing is to not stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery ever day. Never lose a holy curiosity!!! –Albert Einstein

Welcome to the sixth installment of Presidential Watch Sunday. I would like to thank the White House and Pete Souza (The Official White House Photographer) for giving us unprecedented access to photos of the United States Presidency and I would like to thank MSNBC for sharing the video of President Obama's unprecedented speech.

This first photo shows President Obama looking at the King Abdul Aziz Order of Merit medal presented to him by Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz at the beginning of their bilateral meeting at the King's Farm in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia on June 3, 2009. The Saudi Order of Merit medal is Saudi Arabia's highest honor. I wonder if the metal is solid gold?

Click on all images for great detail!!!

This next photo is of President Obama waving goodbye from the top of the steps of Air Force One as he departs King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on his way to Cairo, Egypt on June 4, 2009.

This next photo is of President Obama (pictured on far right) next to his press secretary, Robert Gibbs and National Security Council Chief of Staff, Mark Lippert (far left) as they glance out the window of Air Force One in awe of the ancient Egyptian pyramids they will be soon touring.

One of the things I like so much about President Obama is he seems like such a normal guy with zero pretense and a very healthy curiosity about the world around him–in many ways–like an innocent child. For some reason, when I examine all these photos, it feels like we get to go along and see all this great stuff that is new to him as well as us. Very cool!!!

After President Obama landed, he attended a meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo, Egypt on June 4, 2009. The photo below shows President Obama leaving the meeting with Mubarak next to him.

President Obama jokingly shows off the hat he was given prior to his tour of the great Pyramids and the Sphinx in Egypt. President Obama looks like a character out of Indiana Jones.

In this next photo, President Obama is pictured standing between Egypt's Great Sphinx on the left and the Pyramid of Khafre on the right on June 4, 2009.

In this next shot, we see President Obama standing in front of the great pyramid. O.K., I am definitely starting to hear the Raider's Of The Lost Art theme starting to play in the background!!! "Dun!, dun!, dun!, dun!...dun, dun, duh. Dun!, dun!, dun!, dun!...dun, dun, duh." No time to argue, quick, throw me the idol!!!

In this next photo we see President Obama as he carefully descends down a steep flight of stairs as he tours the Pyramid of Giza with his senior staff on June 4, 2009.

This next photo is really interesting and kind of funny because President Obama said he thought the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic located toward the bottom of the column on the right side of the photo looked like him and it does!!!

This next shot is of President Obama walking with Zahi Hawass (left) who is the General of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Aniquities. Senior Presidential Advisor, David Axelrod and Cheif of Staff, Rahm Emanuel are pictured on the right.

This next photo is of President Obama looking out the window of his Marine One helicopter at the Great Pyramids as he leaves.

Two weeks ago, on Presidential Watch Sunday, I shared this video with you of President Obama's outstanding speech he gave at Cairo University. I included it here in case you missed it:

I Spy Saturday Season 1 [Episode 10 : Tatia]

I Spy Saturday
Season 1 [Episode 10 : Tatia]
Original Air Date: November 17, 1965

I have some great news regarding I Spy!!! This episode was great!!! For the first time, I thoroughly enjoyed watching an episode of I Spy. I think it has to do with the fact Cosby and Culp are warmed up now and the show is starting to develop some character depth.

I also figured out what keeps me coming back for more I Spy, and that is Bill Cosby and Robert Culp's characters are really cool!!! The way they dress and their attitude with those vintage Rolex Pepsi's which are all over this episode, and they are just cool. Bill Cosby's style with the mock-turtleneck t-shirts reminds me of Tiger Woods–very cool.

Rolex Wrist Shot of the Day: GV Milgauss on the new iPhone 3Gs...

First iPhone 3G S Wrist-Shot

Oscar, in Florida woke up at 5am yesterday and went down to the Apple store to pick up the all-new Apple iPhone 3Gs which has a 3 Megapixel camera with a new macro touch screen function. The way it works, is that the new iPhone camera has an auto-focus camera, but if you touch an item on the screen if auto-focuses on just that item. So in this photo Oscar, touched his Rolex Milgauss GV and which put it in focus.

This is the first Rolex Wrist shot I have seen that was taken with the new iPhone and have a feeling we will be seeing many more...

I Want A Good Watch Camera...

For me personally, the significantly improved camera on the iPhone is the main reason I will be upgrading. I can't even begin to tell you how many stunning shots I missed, because of the lame camera on the earlier iPhone. The whole point of having a camera in your iPhone is so you don't have to carry around a separate point and shoot!!! At 3Megapixels, with built in auto-focus and macro point-and-focus, the new iPhone 3G S is a dream come true!!! Also, I have seen video that was shot with the iPhone and it looks really good!!!

I am extremely curious to see what hardware and software features the 4th generation iPhone that will come out a year from now will have and look like. I say this because with the feature-set on the all-new 3G S iPhone Apple picked the last of the low-hanging-fruit (pun not intended). From here on out, it has to be about real innovation and not just cobbling together 5 year old Pocket PC technology that sticks a Motorola Razr inside an HP iPaq...

iPhone 3.0 Software Available...

iPhone 3.0 Software Available
3rd Time Is A Charm!!!

Just in case you didn't notice, Apple just released the all new iPhone 3.0 Software and I have had a chance to mess around with it. It is amazing!!

One of the many great new features is the ability to turn the screen horizontally to type (as seen below). Typing in landscape mode makes it a zillion time easier and far, far more accurate.

The iPhone software can be put on any first or second generation iPhone and comes standard on the all-new iPhone 3GS. The 3.0 makes everything on the iPhone run much, much faster and it makes the iPhone far more responsive. Other great features included in the update include:

• Universal Spotlight Search
• Voice Recorder
• Cut/Copy/Paste
• Sync Your Notes (Although Evernote from Evernote.com is a million times better).
• Stereo Bluetooth (Great for working-out).

A few great tips that are not documented:

1. When you turn on the screen and slide your finger to unlock the screen, the iPhone goes to your home screen with the icons. If you then click on the home button, it will go straight to the spotlight search which is the new hotness for launching apps and finding anything almost instantly.

For instance, lets say you know that the Rolling Stones Jumping Jack Flash is on your iPod and you want to hear it but you don't want to waste minutes looking for it in the iPod. You simply go to spotlight and start typing "jumpi" and it will show up instantly–same with contacts. You get the idea.

2. Instant camera feature tip: This is a great hint if you like to use the camera on the iPhone a lot. The iPhone 3.0 iPhone software has a new feature that you can find by going to "Settings" then click on "General" then on "Home" and select "Camera." This way, wherever you are in the iphone if you double tap on the home button, it will go straight to the camera.

These two features alone make the iPhone so much better!!! If you don't have an iPhone yet, now it is time to get one!!! Especially since they start at $99.
