The sun never sets on the World of Rolex, and every week there is a fascinating event occurring somewhere on earth that is sponsored by Rolex and this week we have the Le Mans Formula 1 race in France as well as The U.S. Open taking place at Pebble Beach in California.

47 Years ago, the first time the U.S. Open was played at Pebble Beach, Jack Nicklaus upstaged his rivals, Lee Trevino and Arnold Palmer to won the 1972 U.S. Open. This years U.S. Open is unusual as Jack Nicklaus' Rolex Day-Date has been making the rounds. The fascinating back story is that Rolex, under the leadership of André Heiniger gave Jack Nicklaus a yellow gold Rolex Day-Date in 1967. The photo below is the oldest photo of Jack wearing his Day-Date I have been able to find and it was taken in 1968.

Jack Nicklaus is pictured below with Tiger Woods at the 2012 ATT National Tournament where Tiger passed Jack to the 2nd Place on Career List with his 74th victory.


Jack Nicklaus has been wearing his same Day-Date for 52 years straight and he recently decided to put it up for auction with Phillips Auction House, the benefits of which will all go to the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation (@anchcf). Today, U.S. President Donald Trump awarded Tiger Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the White House Rose Garden, and Tiger was sporting his D-Blue Rolex SEA-DWELLER as seen in the photo below.

Tiger is wearing his Rolex DEEPSEA D-Blue model seen below. This is the same watch Tiger was rocking when he won The 2019 Masters Tournament last month.

President Trump is no stranger to Rolex and in the photo below we see him sporting his Rolex 'President' Day-Date out on the golf course.

Tiger Woods roared back when he won the 2019 Masters Golf Tournament today in Augusta, Georgia and won the famous green coat!! This was Tiger Woods 81st Career PGA Tour Win (2nd Most of All-time) makes Tiger Woods a 5-Time-Masters Champion, which puts him in 2nd place for most career wins. Most profoundly, this means Tiger Woods broke the record for most year between Masters wins at 14 years in-between!!!

Tiger wore his Rolex DEEPSEA SEA-DWELLER D-Blue after he won the Masters Tournament, as we see on his wrist in the videos above. 

The D-Blue SEA-DWELLER features an unusual horizontal gradient to faces from blue above to black below, and it also has the DEEPSEA dial designation in a large green font. It is kind of profound if you think about it that the only two brands that didn't abandon Tiger after the challenges he went through years ago were Rolex and Nike.

Ali v. Frazier; Tyson v. Holyfield; Palmer v. Nicklaus; Evert v. Navratilova, Borg v. McEnroe—all great rivalries that have been going on since the beginning of televised sports: Fellow Rolex ambassadors, or should I say Rolex "Testimonees" Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are in the process of making golf history as they are going head-to-head in the first pay-per-view Golf event which features a $9 Million purse for the winner, and the loser gets nothing. BTW, What is a 'Testimonee'!?!! I think it might be a word Rolex created, like 'Cerachrom'.

Hodinkee just posted a superb interview with Greg Norman where he talks about his love of watches and shows off some cool watches from his collection. There are a few interesting tidbits in this story. One is that Greg Norman was a Rolex brand ambassador in the past. The other interesting thing is that Greg is wearing a Panerai on his wrist, but they don't talk about it which seems strange to me.

Below are some photos of Greg Norman wearing Rolex watches back in the 1980s and 1990s. These photos are from my story on The Open. Greg Norman won The Open in 1986 and 1993. In 1993 Greg Norman set the record for the lowest score over 72 holes at The Open, winning in only 267 strokes. In the first photo below we see Greg Norman wearing his yellow gold Rolex Submariner.
