Back in May of 2023 I published an article where I discovered photos of Elon Musk wearing his Rolex Datejust Reference 16200 (pictured below the video), so it's interesting to note just a few days ago, I was Rolex Spotting and noticed Elon Musk's father, Errol Musk in a recent interview rocking a SEA-DWELLER! At first I assumed Errol was wearing a Submariner, but upon closer inspection I realize he's rocking a SEA-DWELLER, as there is no cyclops lens. I can't help but wonder why he chose a SEA-DWELLER over a Submariner?

The interview below of Elon Musk's father, Errol Musk is beyond fascinating as it covers so much ground. Basically the interviewer asked him all kinds of crazy questions, most people would not, but he answered all of them as if he had drunk a gallon of truth serum before the interview. Also, we learn where Elon got his funny laugh from, as well as his charm and a lot of his charisma. I think Errol Flynn (Freudian Slip ;-) Musk has got to be THE MOST INTERESTING MAN ALIVE TODAY, and if not, certainly one of them!!! I think if you watch the video interview of Elon Musk's father seen below, you will agree the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...

The World's Second Most Interesting Man?

Elon Musk is not only the wealthiest man alive today, but is on his way to soon becoming the first Trillionaire in history. Elon's positive impact on humanity is unparalleled in history, from Tesla to, SPACE X, to Starlink, to heading The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for the U.S Government, and way beyond! It's funny as I say, "The World's Second Most Interesting Man?", when the reality nobody, including Elon's father could be as interesting and intriguing as Elon, yet his father Errol remains equally fascinating to me on many levels...

The recent image seen above, is a screen grab from video footage of President Trump watching in complete awe at Space X, while Elon is attempting his second attempt at catching Space X Starship with chopsticks...The body language in this image is beyond priceless!!!!

Although the photo below of Elon Musk may not be the best, it is the only photo I have been able to locate that clearly shows the details of his 36MM Rolex Datejust he wears on a Rolex Oyster...Both these photos were taken close to a quarter century ago, when Elon used to wear a wristwatch, but in recent years he seemed to have stopped wearing a wristwatch altogether...It's interesting to note, Elon's father, Errol still wears his Rolex on a daily basis...It also appears Elon is aging backwards as he looked older 23 years ago than he does today, especially with his hairline :-0

While I was working on researching this article, since I am a Rolex watch-spotting nut, decided to see if I could find a photo of Elon Musk's beautiful mother wearing a Rolex. While I was not able to find a photo of Maye Musk wearing a Rolex,  I found the photo below from a fashion photo shoot of her wearing a Tudor Black Bay.

Elon's mother, Maye Musk has been a fashion model her whole adult life, and we see her pictured below when she was 20 years old.

Four years after Tesla founder, Elon Musk and lead designer, Franz von Holzhausen originally showed off the Tesla CyberTruck, they finally delivered the first models to customers at a special event held at Tesla's Texas Gigafactory, where they are being exclusively manufactured.

Beginning Friday before last, which was Black Friday, in anticipation of the official product launch which occurred this past Thursday, production Tesla CyberTrucks models began showing up in key Tesla stores around the United States, many of which are located in malls. The image above shows a Tesla CyberTruck being driven through the mall in order to get it to the Tesla Store and notice it went driving by a Rolex authorized dealership.

Rocking a Paul Newman "Big Red"

The lead Tesla designer, Franz von Holzhausen not only designed all the existing Tesla models, including the Model S, 3, X, Y, as well as the CyberTruck is perhaps most famous for having thrown a steel ball, the size of a tennis ball at the CyberTruck at the launch event four years ago, and much to his surprise, cracked the special glass that was supposed to be unbeatable.

A while ago, I could not help but notice Franz von Holzhausen was rocking a Paul Newman 'Big Red' Paul Newman Daytona [Reference 6263] as seen in the photo below on his wrist and I wrote a story about his Daytona as well as Elon Musk's Datejust.

Franz's 'Big Red' Daytona (pictured above) appears to be identical to Paul Newman's Reference 6263, which begs the question of whether he was the person who bought Paul Newman's second Rolex Daytona that came to auction? 

So what if anything does Franz's Daytona have in common with the CyberTruck he designed? It's hard to say exactly, but as a fellow designer I could not help but wonder if Franz's CyberTruck design was inspired or informed by the design of his stainless steel Rolex Daytona?

After all, Paul Newman's 6263 Daytona and the CyberTruck have a great deal in common, beginning with the fact that are moth made primary from stainless steel. When Rolex originally debuted the Daytona back in the early to mid 1960s, it was considered to be an unusually large and sporty watch.

Paul Newman's 6263 Daytona was accented with a black dial, and matching black bezel insert, along with white subdials—just like the CyberTruck has black accents. So basically, they were both big, bold, sporty designs that were initially highly polarizing, while offering an unusually rugged build quality, with unbreakable glass. Also both are considered icons of modern design. The more I think about it, the more I realize how remarkably similarly uncanny the color and material vibe is between Paul Newman's 'Big Red' Daytona and the Franz's CyberTruck!!!!

This model of Daytona was nicknamed by collectors "BIG RED" as the "DAYTONA" dial designation is bigger and bolder red than on any other Rolex Daytona models. It was gifted to Paul Newman by his wife Joanne Woodward in 1983 as a gift to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

Alex Jones has been a highly controversial figure for many decades now, but that is not surprising as many, many men who have worn Rolex have been independent-minded barrier breakers and critical thinkers who beat to their own drum, and have gone against the grain of the status quo. Alex thinks very highly of RFK Jr and is impressed with his bid for the U.S. Presidency in 2024. I am also a huge fan of RFK Jr., and have a blog dedicated to showcasing his progress toward the U.S. Presidency.

I want to give Alex a complement in that I think he has really cool Rolex style in the sense I think his navy blue T-Shirt with the logos looks really cool with his LV Submariner. Alex Jones has been wearing Rolex for a long time, and in the photo below taken years ago, we see him rocking a standard black dial/black bezel Rolex Submariner. 

Today as we see above he seems to primarily wear an LV Submariner. 

I can't figure out if Alex Jones is wearing a green dial Hulk or a black dial LV Submariner. Most of the time it looks like he is wearing a black dial Submariner, but in the photo below, it looks like his dial might be green!?!!

Tesla & Rolex Connections

    I was talking to a friend of mine who is a serious Rolex expert and we were talking about how we were both in complete awe of Elon Musk's achievements. My pal said, "It's too bad Elon Musk never wore a Rolex, did he?" I agreed, and then he said, "Elon seems like he would be the kind of man who would wear a Rolex." 

I responded by saying "I agree, and I have spent a lot of time studying photos of him, but unfortunately I never discovered evidence that he wore a Rolex :-( Then several weeks ago, much to my surprise, I FINALLY discovered multiple photos of Elon Musk rocking a Rolex.

The reason why it took me so long to discover photos of Elon Musk wearing a Rolex is it appears he wore a Rolex Datejust 30 years ago, back in 1994 when he was attending Queen's University college.

After I wrote this article, I later discovered a photo of Elon at Space X headquarters in California, taken in 2004, standing in front of an early Space X rocket, wearing his Rolex Datejust as seen below.

I have a funny anecdote to share with you. I was talking with our Captain Danny, and I shared my discovery with him that I had found images of Elon Musk wearing a stainless steel Rolex Datjust back in 1994, and I showed him the photos. Captain Danny said "Nice! Elon and you looked alike when you were young" and he included the images below of me, which was interesting as I responded to Captain Danny and said "I noticed that as well."

The photo below of me was taken when I was around 18, back in 1984, and I was rocking my stainless steel Rolex Datejust on a Jubilee bracelet, whereas in the photo above of Elon Musk clearly shows he was wearing his stainless steel Rolex Datejust on an Oyster Bracelet.

Elon is 5 years younger than I am, and I am proud, yet embarrassed to admit it, but I joined Twitter before Elon did... Obviously Elon is probably the most successful man in human history, and if not, he is certainly in that pantheon. Captain Danny included both the image above and below when he said Elon and I looked alike when we were younger. In the photo below taken in San Francisco in 1999 I was rocking my Coke GMT-Master.

Nick Gould discovered a photo of Elon Musk rocking his Rolex where we can finally see the face of his watch, and to my eyes it looks like he is wearing a Rolex Datejust, Thunderbird model as seen below.

Rocking a Paul Newman "Big Red"

I was working on a story for TeslaMagazine.org showcasing the Tesla Keynote for Giga-Texas and I think I discovered Tesla lead designer, Franz von Holzhausen rocking what certainly appears to be a vintage Rolex Paul Newman Daytona Big Red!?!! Assuming I made a correct positive ID, I wonder if he owns the Paul Newman's Daytona #2 that Paul Newman actually wore?

The video below is of Elon Musk's keynote for the launch of the brand spanking new Tesla Giga-Factory which is completely mind-boggling!!!!

I might be wrong, but Franz's watch sure seems to have all the telltale characteristics of a vintage Daytona...

For frame of reference I am including a photo discovered by Nick Gould on the cover of The Sunday Times Magazine of Paul Newman rocking his Rolex Daytona Reference 6263.

The Complete Reinvention of the 

Truck for the 21st Century

Tesla invited me to the launch of the CyberTruck event, and unfortunately I was not able to attend, but that does not mean I still can't share a lot of insight into this amazing historical event. I have a dedicated Tesla blog named Jake's Tesla World, but I usually end up publishing my Tesla stories on Jake's Rolex World.

Tesla is an amazing company that has been growing like crazy. Today Tesla is the most valuable American Car company as far as market cap, and is second in market cap only to Toyota and VW. The Tesla Model 3 is the best selling electric car in the world, and the 5th best selling car in the U.S. today. Tesla is also the number one selling brand in Switzerland today!

BLADE RUNNER

The Tesla CyberTruck Launch Event was held in Los Angeles, which is profound as Elon Musk had mentioned months before the truck was unveiled that it looked like something out of the seminal 1982 science fiction movie, Blade Runner which starred Harrison Ford. The supreme irony is that in the opening of Blade Runner we see the image below which states that Blade Runner is taking place in Los Angeles, in November of 2019:

"All those moments will be lost in time. Like tears in rain."

Keep in mind I am not talking about or referring to Blade Runner 2049, which starts Ryan Gosling, but Blade Runner 1982.

There is a Fine Line Between 

Love & Hate
I have often said "I have to hate something before I can love it", and despite being a little shocked at first glance when Elon Musk debuted the polygonal shaped CyberTruck, it instantly grew on me! Elon Musk debuted his upcoming all-new Tesla Truck recently in Hawthorne, California and the response has been amazingly polarizing!?!! People either seem to love it or hate it. Personally, I love it, and I am writing this article to share my insight with you into why I believe the Tesla Truck is beyond brilliant! Notice there are ZERO logos or badges on the Tesla CyberTruck...That is because the truck is already so iconic, it does not need logos...

Electric cars and trucks are the future. Most major car manufacturer including Mercedes, BMW, VW, and Porsche have announced they plan to convert their entire future fleets of cars to electric, and for great reasons. My single most favorite feature of owning an electric car is that you plug it in when you get home or to work, and when you drive off, you have a fully fueled car. When I had gas powered cars, I remember it was such a pain to have to go to gas stations all the time, and I would always run low on fuel at the most inopertune times.

I watched the Tesla CyberTruck launch event live, and since I am a designer, thoughts began racing through my mind on how to make the CyberTruck look much better. So I sat down at the computer and started playing with the design. In the image I created below, I extended the geometry of the rear window to complete the pyramid look which could house optional solar panels. Then I painted the bottom of the car a matte black (as seen below) and added a wide red pinstripe, which I think looks super badass!!!! Completing the pyramid windowscape also reminds me of the Nike swoosh logo, which looks like it's in motion when standing still...

In the Tesla video below we see a video Tesla released on the Cybertruck.

The image below overlays the Tesla CyberTruck on top of the Ford F150, and as we see they are practically identical dimensionally.

Below is a photo of the spacious interior of the Telsa CyberTruck.

In the photo above we see the Tesla CyberTruck with its third front seat in the up position so it can seat 6 people, and in the photo below we see it with the seat down, which results in a huge armrest with 3 drink holders...Also, if you look closely at the center rear seat, it features a fold down armrest with a pass-through for extra-long cargo items. in this photo we also see a large white interior lighting strip for the rear seats, which could be used for reading or just lighting the back seat well.

The Motor Trend photo below shows the Tesla CyberTruck drivers seat, with the enormous armrest, which is a third seat folded down. It also features a landscape LED LCD screen which measure 17 inches diagonally, which is 2 inches more than the screen on the Model 3. Also, if you look closely, you will notice the absence of a shifting stalk, as this function is controlled on the single screen.

Below we see the Tesla CyberTruck with a special camping tent extension, and fold out cooking grill...The Tesla Truck is so powerful that users can plug in 110 and even 220 powered devices to it!?!!

In the photo below we see the Tesla CyberTruck with the optional rear bed solar panel which can increase range by up to 15 miles per day!!!! Talk about a game-changer!!! If you keep this truck parked outdoors, it could always be charged up to full just from the sun, especially if you drive less than 15 miles per day!!!

Elon Musk tweeted and said: 

"Will be an option to add solar power that generates 15 miles per day, possible more. Would love this to be self powered. Adding fold out solar wings would generate 30-40 miles per day. Average miles per day in U.S. is 30.

The reason it's called 'The Vault' is that it is so strong, an adult male can walk on it without denting it.

Braking Barriers

Many people criticized Tesla's head designer, Franz von Halzhausen after he threw a solid steel ball bearing the size of a baseball at the Tesla Truck and broke its specially developed metal glass. This destructive criticism is beyond absurd!?!! The bottom line is these men on the Tesla Team are pushing the envelope far beyond what anybody else has tried to do, and they deserve credit for that in my opinion. Elon Must published the following tweet seen below that shows Franz throwing the metal ball at the window earlier and it bouncing off. Apparently they tried this dozens of times prior to the event and it didn't break. That is VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!!!

Update: Elon Musk tweeted the reason the windows cracked when hit by the 1KG steel ball Franz threw at them was because of micro-fractures that were made when Franz first hit the side of the CyberTruck with the sledgehammer:

King of the Road

Below we see a photo of the Tesla Truck Design team standing in front of the Tesla Truck which offers a superb idea of the scale of the Truck. The CyberTruck measures 231.7 inches long by 79.8 inches wide, and 75 inches high. CyberTruck come standard with six seats and a 6.5-foot rear bed, and rides on 35-inch knobby off-road tires coupled with the Tesla softly sprung air-suspension. I believe this photo was taken in the Tesla design studio, and if you look closely, it appears there is another Tesla CyberTruck poking out on the left side of the photo, but this one seems to be black with some kind of gold skin on the top!?!!

Elon Musk tweeted on Sunday evening about how the CyberTruck body material is formed from 3MM 301 30x cold-rolled steel that he has been developing for his SpaceX Starship Rocket which will become the first rocket to transport humans to Mars:

"We were going to use titanium skins for Cybertruck, but cold-rolled 30X stainless is much stronger...We're creating this alloy at Tesla. Not a problem to create a lot of it, but we'll need to come up with new body manufacturing methods, as it can't be made using standard methods...We're going to be using the same alloy in the Starship rocket...Reason CyberTruck is so planar is that you can't stamp ultra-hard 30X steel, because it breaks the stamping press...Even bending it requires a deep score on the inside of the bend, which is how the prototype was made."


Tesla originally contemplated using carbon fiber to make the CyberTruck, but it cost $130K per ton v. only $2,500 per ton for steel.

EXOSKELETON

Below we see a photo of the Tesla CyberTruck exoskeleton which according to Tesla: 

"Cybertruck is built with an exterior shell made for ultimate durability and passenger protection. Starting with a nearly impenetrable exoskeleton, every component is designed for superior strength and endurance, from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin to Tesla armor glass."

Elon Musk mentioned during the Tesla CyberTruck Keynote: "This is different to how most trucks are designed, with a body and bed on frame essentially." Just to be clear, regular cars and trucks consist of a chassis, and then the body/coach is attached to the chassis frame. The Tesla CyberTruck is basically, unibody construction where the entire body and chassis are a one-piece frame, which results in an infinitely stronger and safer truck.

Elon also discussed how Tesla had tested ballistic impact test using a 9-millimeter full metal jacket bullet that weighed 115 grain from 10 meters. Elon pointed out this literally makes the Tesla truck bulletproof:

"You want a truck that's tough? You want a truck that's really tough—not fake tough?"

The Tesla CyberTruck boasts numerous captivating design elements. In the accompanying image, we observe the impressive 6 x 4-foot bed, providing an expansive space that accommodates a substantial 100 cubic feet of lockable storage.

In the image below we see the subtrunk located in the bed of the Tesla CyberTruck, which is not only pretty invisible, but lockable. Also, if you look closely, there are L-Track Rails and T-Slots which will allow users to anchor items in the CyberTruck's huge 6.5- foot bed. In other words, this will easily allow you to stop things from moving around in the bed while driving even if they are not tied down.

The photo below shows the Tesla CyberTruck with it's tailgate down, which features a slide out ramp, that makes loading and unloading the vehicle much easier. Also, when doing so the kneeling suspension raises in the front and lowers in the back to accommodate this process. The suspension is capable of raising and lowering four inches in each direction, and can extend the clearance all the way up to 16 inches, which is insane!

In the image below from the Tesla CyberTruck unveiling we see in the image on the far left side what appears to be large Frunk (Front Trunk), as well as a hidden storage compartments in the rear sail pillars (picture on far right), which could probably hold tools or other smaller items.

If you are a regular reader of Jake's Rolex World you know that when I write a story that I find to be really exiting I include this video or Archie Bell & The Drells singing their classic upbeat anthem named Tighten Up!!!!!

Back in Black

Just for the heck of it, I did a few more renderings that show my idea of how to make the Tesla CyberTruck look much better as we see in the three images below. I added a rectangular window extension to the back of the car that could consist of solar panels on both sides. I realize doing so would probably only ad a mile a day of range, but that is better than nothing. Also, I painted the bottom black, and added a thick red pinstripe.

It's fascinating to me because I have NEVER EVER wanted to own a truck in my life, but I LOVE the Tesla CyberTruck. In many ways, due to the brilliant design, it's more of an SUV hybrid Truck than a standard old-fashioned truck. Speaking of which, I can't help but wonder what net effect the Tesla CyberTruck in going to have on the Range Rover brand?

In the image below, it is the same as above, but I changed the pinstripe to green.

I created the set of images below that shows my enhancements to the CyberTruck with a red, blue and green pinstripes. This reminds me of a Batmobile! 

I can see how the Tesla CyberTruck will replace the Range Rover as the new urban lifestyle SUV de rigueur for the landed gentry to navigate their way around the new world—from soccer moms to serious off-road enthusiasts...

After all, it is a fact the majority of people who drive pickup trucks don't use them for their intended functionality. According to Edwards:

"75 percent of truck owners use their truck for towing one time a year or less (meaning, never). Nearly 70 percent of truck owners go off-road one time a year or less, and a full 35 percent of truck owners use their truck for hauling—putting something in the bed, its ostensible raison d'être—once a year or less."

It turns out I am not the only person who thought the Tesla CyberTruck would look better in black, as @SuperSaf made an all black Tesla and showed it to @ElonMusk, who said Tesla will offer an all black version as well as seen below. I like the all-black, but like my two-tone version seen above better.

It turns out there are many more people who have the same idea to skin the Tesla CyberTruck including DBrand, who just put up a Tesla Cybertruck Skins and Wraps Customizer page. Looks Like A...

People keep coming up with things that remind them of the Tesla CyberTruck, so I thought I would share some interesting images. First we see the F117 Nighthawk Stealth Fighter.

Below we see the 1970 Ferrari 512S Modulo Concept car, which also shares the swooping roofline.

Below we see a 1978 Lancia Sibilo from Classic Driver which looks very Blade Runner, and I think it may have been used in the movie Total Recall.
