Sofia Coppola: Academy Award Winning Director

...Rolex Super-Hotness...

Sofia Coppola

Academy Award Winning Director

Rocking a Rolex DATE

Plus ALL 4 Godfather Don Corleone Actors

Wearing Rolex Professional Watches

Last week Hodinkee.com published an interesting story titled "CULTURE OF TIME: Why 'On The Rocks' Is The Watch Movie Of The Year, in which they interviewed the films prop master who discussed a Rolex DATE model that was worn on set during filming but apparently isn't visible in the final cut.

The backstory is that it was a vintage Rolex DATE model that was given by legendary Director, Francis Ford Coppola to his very talented daughter, Sofia Coppola.

After having read the Hodinkee story, I was naturally curious as it lacked any photos of Sofia Coppola wearing her Rolex DATE, but the great news is I found pictures of her rocking her Rolex DATE as we see in the photos above and below.

Below is a trailer of "On The Rocks" which I recently watched and thought it was excellent:

In the photo seen below from W Magazine taken by Ted Dayton back in 1990 we again see Sofia Coppola wearing her Rolex DATE which was the same year she costarred in The Godfather Part III.

Speaking of The Godfather: Part 3, Francis Ford Coppola just released a new re-edited Directors Cut version that debuted on December 10th, 2020 and it is widely being heralded as a brilliant work of art. Richard Brady from The New Yorker Magazine recently published an article named "Newly Re-Edited, "The Godfather: Part III" is the masterpiece it already was

Below is the trailer of Godfather III: CODA. I haven't seen the movie yet, but from what I understand, it has a different beginning and end...The movie is formally titled "Mario Puzo's The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone and it is available on Blu-ray and digitally...

I must mention I am a huge fan of the Godfather Trilogy and have watched all three movies countless times. I saw the Godfather Part III on Christmas day in 1990 in San Francisco at the Regency Movie Theater on Van Ness Avenue and thought it was every bit as great as the first two movies!!! My love for the movie was contrary to popular consensus as people criticized Sofia Coppola's role in the movie, but I thought her acting was absolutely magnificent!

Andy Garcia

Godfather III

Academy Award Nominee for Best Actor

I think the Coppola's should come out with a Godfather: Part 4 in the future, which should feature Andy Garcia, who was also completely amazing!!!!

Andy Garcia was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 1990 for his role in The Godfather: Part III. Andy Garcia is pictured below rocking his Rolex Explorer II Orange Hand [Reference 1655].

Photo above appears courtesy of Cigar Officianado

The fascinating thing about Andy Garcia's vintage Rolex Explorer II (Reference 1655) 'Orange Hand' is that he somehow added a black GMT-Bezel to it which I have not only never seen before, but didn't realize was even possible, but damn it looks good!

It is fascinating to note that all four of the major Godfather actors in the Godfather Trilogy have worn Rolex watches to keep the time of their life, so not only Andy Garcia, but also Robert De Niro, Marlon Brando and Al Pacino as we see below.

Robert De Niro

Godfather II

Academy Award Winner for Best Actor

Robert De Niro starred in Godfather Part II and won the 1975 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor  for his portrayal as young Don Vito Corleone.

Robert De Niro has been wearing Rolex watches for 5 decades now as we see him back in 1978 wearing a Rolex Submariner in Deer Hunter.

We see Robert De Niro below is a recent photo with Jason Stratham and De Niro is again wearing a vintage Rolex Submariner. I realize I am daisy-chaining a bit now, but hey, it's RolexMagazine.com after all.

Marlon Brando

Godfather I

Academy Award Winner for Best Actor

"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse."

Also, speaking of The Godfather and Rolex, there is a long list of actors that wore Rolex in real life including Marlon Brando who famously wore a GMT-Master in Apocalypse Now.

Al Pacino

Godfather I, II & III

Academy Award Winner for Best Actor

Al Pacino starred in all 3 Godfather movies and has worn many different Rolex watches for many decades both on and off screen. Al Pacino is pictured below with Marlon Brando on the set of Godfather I.

Al Pacino wore his Rolex Submariner when he accepted his Academy Award Oscar for Best Actor in 1993 for his role in The Scent of A Woman as we seen in this discovery made by Nick Gould.

Sofia Coppola

Academy Award Winner for Best Actor

In this last photo we again see Sofia Coppola behind the camera where she spends most of her time today as a director.

Sofia Coppola's new movie titled 'On The Rocks' which can be seen on Apple TV + stars Bill Murray is her third movie she directed with him. Her first movie with Bill Murray was the 2003 romantic comedy named "Lost in Translation" which Sofia wrote and directed and as we see below Bill Murray wore a stainless steel Rolex Datejust in that movie. Lost in Translation was nominated in 2004 for the Academy Award for Best Picture and Sofia Coppola was also nominated for Best Director...

Rolex Coolness: Al Pacino Stainless Steel Rolex Submariner

Academy Award Winning Best Actor

...Rolex Coolness...

Al Pacino
A Brilliant Career With Rolex Keeping His Time

Al Pacino is considered to be one of the greatest actors alive today.  He has been wearing Rolex watches on film and in real life for decades.

Al Pacino is pictured below with Carrie Underwood at the 2013 Emmy Awards, and you can see he is wearing his trademark Rolex Submariner.

Al Pacino stared in the seminal Godfather trilogy of movies where he played Michael Corleone family. In my opinion the Godfather trilogy is one of the greatest set of movies ever made. The Godfather was released in 1972, and Godfather II was released in 1974. Godfather III was released more than 25 years later in 1990. Many people have criticized Godfather III as not being as good as Part 1 & 2, but I completely disagree. I think Godfather Part III is every bit as great as 1 & 2.

The photo below shows Al Pacino's character, Don Michael Corleone with his father, Don Vito Corleone that was played by Marlon Brando.

Another seminal Al Pacino movie was Scarface, which the photo below is from.

In 1992 All Pacino Starred in Glengarry Glen Ross, in which he wore a two-tone Rolex Datejust, as seen below.

Glengarry Glen Ross had a major all-star cast, and featured one of the craziest Rolex scenes in a movie with Alec Baldwin's speech

In this next photo we see Al Pacino wearing a stainless steel Rolex on a Jubilee Bracelet, in 2002 when he stared in the movie named Simone.

Al Pacino is pictured below with Kevin Spacey, and Al is wearing his trademark Rolex Submariner.

Alec Baldwin: Glengarry Glen Ross-Yellow Gold Rolex Day-Date

Alec Baldwin

Glengarry Glen Ross

Yellow Gold Rolex Day-Date

Alec Baldwin is one of the most successful and accomplished actors of his generation, and he was married to Kim Basinger, back in the day. He has starred in all kinds of highly iconic movies including Beetlejuice, The Hunt for Red October, The Marrying Man, The Shadow, The Aviator, The Departed and The Cooler, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor nomination.

One of the most iconic Rolex related moments in film history is from Alec Baldwin's command performance in the beginning of Glengarry Glen Ross in the early 1990s, where he gives his Always Be Closing (ABC) speech. I saw this movie 22 years ago, back in 1992 and have not seen it since, but remember how powerful his performance was, and he uses his Rolex Day-Date as a powerful tool to communicate his strong perception of success.

This scene is up there with Michael Douglas' "Greed Is Good" speech from Wall Street, and it is similar to Leonardo DiCaprio's speech in The Wolf of Wall Street which is in theaters now.

Warning NSFW: Alec Baldwin plays a hardcore Alpha male in this performance and the video below contains a lot of powerful language and gratuitous profanity.

The photo below shows Alec Baldwin in a recent photo, two decades later, wearing a Rolex.

Two-Tone Rolex Datejust

I remember seeing Glengarry Glen Ross, back when it debuted in theaters, and I have not seen it since, so I thought I would check it out, and it was a really intense movie. I also noticed Al Pacino was wearing a two-tone Rolex Datejust.

In the image below from Glengarry Glen Ross, we see Al Pacino sitting next to actor Jack Lemmon, who was amazing in the movie. Jack Lemmon is one of the great actors in history, as is Al Pacino.

Actually not that I think about it, Glengarry Glen Ross had an amazing all star cast, many of which are Academy Award winning actors, including Kevin Spacey, Jonathan Pryce, Alan Arkin, Jude Ciccolella, and Ed Harris. Speaking of Kevin Spacey, I have not seen it yet, but everybody keeps telling me he has a great show on House Of Card, which is exclusively on Netflix.
