Jack Black Goes Off with Sax-A-Boom

Weekend Watching

Jack Black
Goes Off with Sax-A-Boom

Jack Black is one highly charismatic dude, and has been wearing Rolex watches for some time now. Jack is also a singer, and musician and has his own band...

I came across his absolutely fascinating command performance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon a few years ago, where Jack is sporting his white gold Rolex Submariner with a blue bezel and matching blue dial.

Jack Black is unusually charismatic as is Jimmy Fallon in this fascinatingly bizarre video I can't seem to stop watching over-and-over again...Also, I can't figure out who is more interesting to watch? As Jimmy Fallon's emotional response to Jack Black, along with his dancing is equally interesting...

I first documented Jack Black rocking a Rolex GMT-Master back in 2011 as we see in the photo below with Shirley MacLaine. Over the years, I have noticed Jack Black wearing multiple Rolex watches, including a green on green LV Submariner.

Sir Elton John
Jack Black on Graham Norton

Below is a video that shows different guest appearances Jack Black made on the Graham Norton show in the U.K.

In the first interview I couldn't help but notice Sir Elton John was rocking a yellow gold Rolex Day-Date as we can easily identify from its highly iconic President Bracelet, which is gleaning out from underneath Sir Elton John's jacket cuff... It's so interesting to note Sir Elton John, who has known in his younger days as being extremely flamboyant and extravagant loves wearing different Rolex watch models.

Dave Brubeck The King of Cool Jazz...

Dave Brubeck

The King of Cool Jazz

1920-2012

This is a story I have been wanting to write for a long time about California born pioneering Jazz Virtuoso, Dave Brubeck. Dave Brubeck was a pioneer on many levels, and enjoyed an amazing lifetime of spectacular achievement.

Dave Brubeck was born in Concord, California and was drafted by the U.S. Army. He was fortunate as he was able to avoid combat due after he played a Red Cross show, which was a tremendous success. In 1951, Brubeck started the Dave Brubeck Quartet in San Francisco, California, with Paul Desmond on saxophone, which was one of the first racially diverse bands. Dave Brubeck's father, was of Swiss ancestry, so it's not surprising he kept the time of his life with a Rolex Datejust on his wrist as seen below.

The Classic Dave Brubeck Quartet with Paul Desmond of alto sax, Dave Brubeck on piano, with Eugene Wright playing bass, and Joe Morello on drums..

Over the years of his life, the Dave Brubeck Quartet maintained its name despite the fact that its lineup of prolific jazz musicians kept changing. The most famous and successful lineup of the quartet existed for a decade between 1958 and 1968, and recorded their seminal Jazz album in 1959 titles "Time Out".

This most famous jazz quartet consisted for Paul Desmond who played alto sax, Eugene Wright on bass, and Joe Morello playing drums, with Dave Brubeck on piano. Time Out was Brubeck's best-selling album, as well as the first jazz album to sell more than a million copies.

Joe Morello

Drummer King

1928-2011

Joe Morello was Dave Brubeck's drummer and was a member of The Dave Brubeck Quartet from 1957 to 1972, and as we see he also wore a Rolex Datejust.

B.B. King: The Greatest Blues Guitarist In History

B.B. King
King Of The Blues

1925-2015

The Greatest Blues Guitarist In History

A King And His President

B.B. King passed away in May of 2015, but he will likely always be remembered as the greatest blues guitarist in history a. B.B. King, commonly referred to as "The King Of The Blues" left behind an amazing career legacy that spanned seven decades.

B.B. King is pictured below with his trademark guitar named Lucille by his side, with his trademark yellow gold Rolex President on his wrist. It's interesting to note B.B. King always wore his Rolex Day-Date in reverse, like the King of race car driving, Richard Petty, who wears his Daytona flipped around.

B.B. King's Rolex Day-Date almost looks like a bracelet from the front and his ring looks like a Rolex President bracelet style ring. Also, Peter who is a reader of Jake's Rolex Watch Blog pointed out (in the comments section) that B.B. King's guitar has two coronets on it that look very similar to the Rolex coronet/crown/logo. This could explain why B.B. King wore his Rolex Day-Date with the coronet where the watch usually goes!!!

B.B. King is posing below in 1949, at age 24 for a photo for his band named The Hooks Brothers.

In this next photo, we see B.B. King with Elvis Presley.

"I remember Elvis as a young man, hanging around Sun Studio. Even then, I knew this kid had a tremendous talent. He was a dynamic young boy. His phraseology, his way of looking at a song, was as unique as Sinatra's. I was a tremendous fan of Elvis, and had he lived, there would have been no limit to his inventiveness." –B.B. King.

In this next photo, we see B.B. King jamming with a young Eric Clapton. B.B. King inspired many generations of musicians with his amazing blues guitar style.

When Love Comes To Town

In these next two videos we see John Mayer going off with B.B. King–both playing some very serious blues guitar!!!

Blues Brothers
Riding With The King

This next photo of the cover of Riding With The King is really cool with Clapton driving The King in an old Cadillac and Clapton is wearing a Rolex Explorer II. Eric Clapton is also a big Rolex collector and you can learn more about him in the Eric Clapton Rolex Story I wrote.

In these next two photos, we also see B. B. King wearing his trademark Yellow Gold Rolex Day-Date.

Below is the video of Riding With The King. What is cooler than Eric Clapton and B.B. King riding around in an old Caddy while they sing, while wearing Rolex watches!?!?

In what had to be a highlight of his career, we see B.B. King below singing "Sweet Home Chicago" with B.B. King, and many other stars.

Rolex Rocker: Ozzy Osbourne The Godfather Of Heavy Metal...

...Rolex Rocker...

Ozzy Osbourne

The Prince of Darkness

 Belongs To The Ages

1948-2025

The Ozzman Goeth

This is the first time I recall writing back-to-back obituaries, one day after another, which is a bummer, but at the same time a celebration of amazing career achievements. I am sad to report, Heavy Metal pioneer and musician, Ozzy Osbourne has stepped back into eternity.

Ozzy was a big Rolex fan and had an amazing collection of Rolex models, including his Rolex President as we see pictured above on his wrist, and he poses with fellow rocker, Vince Neil back in 1984, as well as his custom Explorer II model seen below on his wrist that features a black PVD coating with a Purple dial.

Ozzy is pictured below with his pal, Sir Jackie Stewart, who is the longest running Rolex Ambassador.

John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath and a solo artist who redefined heavy metal, passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76.

His family announced his death in a heartfelt statement:

It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.”

The news comes just weeks after Osbourne’s triumphant final performance at the “Back to the Beginning” concert in his hometown of Birmingham, England, on July 5, 2025, where he reunited with Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward for a historic farewell.

Born on December 3, 1948, in Aston, Birmingham, Osbourne grew up in a working-class family, the fourth of six children. His early life was marked by hardship—undiagnosed dyslexia, ADHD, and a stint in prison for burglary shaped a rebellious spirit that would later fuel his music. Inspired by The Beatles in 1963, Osbourne pursued a career in music, placing an ad that read “Ozzy Zig Needs Gig,” which led to the formation of Black Sabbath in 1968 with Iommi, Butler, and Ward.

Black Sabbath’s self-titled debut in 1970, followed by Paranoid (1970) and Master of Reality (1971), laid the foundation for heavy metal. Osbourne’s urgent, high-pitched vocals, paired with Iommi’s detuned riffs and Butler’s occult-inspired lyrics, created a sound that was raw, heavy, and revolutionary. Hits like “Iron Man,” “War Pigs,” and “Paranoid” became anthems, with Paranoid topping the UK charts and cementing the band’s influence.

The Prince of Darkness

Rocking Rolex

The title "Prince of Darkness" is a bit of a misleading misnomer, as Ozzy was really more the "Prince of Light. "Decades ago, Ozzy Osbourne was captured in a striking photo, boldly sporting his iconic Rolex President, its gold gleam catching the light as he embodied his signature menacing aura—a look that defined his stage persona. With his wild shaved head, intense gaze, and dark, theatrical vibe, he was the quintessential Prince of Darkness, radiating a chilling intensity that thrilled fans. Yet, beneath this gruff, intimidating exterior, Ozzy was a surprising contrast: a warm, affectionate soul, more akin to a cuddly, super-friendly pussycat.

His sharp wit, playful humor and ultra-charismatic personality often shone through, as if he were stumbling through life in a chaotic, laugh-out-loud Benny Hill skit, charming everyone around him with his unexpected warmth and irreverent presence.

Personally, I find it to be fascinating that Ozzy tried to look fierce and scary, but at the same time chose to rock his yellow gold Rolex President as status symbol to communicate his success.

Osbourne’s stage presence—wild, unpredictable, and often controversial—earned him the moniker “Prince of Darkness.” A notorious 1982 incident in Des Moines, where he bit the head off a real bat (mistaking it for a prop), became rock legend.

Fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to his struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, Osbourne reinvented himself as a solo artist under the guidance of Sharon Arden, whom he married in 1982. His debut album, Blizzard of Ozz (1980), featuring guitarist Randy Rhoads, went quadruple-platinum, driven by the iconic “Crazy Train.” Follow-up albums like Diary of a Madman (1981) and No More Tears (1991) solidified his solo legacy, with 13 studio albums and over 100 million records sold across his career.

In the 1990s, Osbourne and Sharon launched Ozzfest, a traveling festival that became a cultural juggernaut, showcasing bands like Slipknot, Tool, and Linkin Park. In 2002, Osbourne reached a new audience through The Osbournes, an MTV reality show that revealed a comedic, chaotic family life with Sharon, Kelly, and Jack. The Emmy-winning series became a blueprint for celebrity-driven reality TV. I was a huge fan of The Osbournes and felt like I really got to know Ozzy and Sharon, Jack and Kelly, and they felt like family, and their show was soooo, soooo funny, fun and heartwarming.

Despite health challenges, including a 2003 ATV accident and a Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2019, Osbourne remained a force. His final concert at Villa Park, performed seated on a bat-adorned throne due to mobility issues, was a star-studded tribute featuring Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and more. “I am Iron Man: go fucking crazy!” he told the 42,000 fans, a moment that captured his enduring spirit.

Osbourne’s influence transcended music. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice—once with Black Sabbath in 2006 and as a solo artist in 2024. Tributes poured in from peers like Metallica, Aerosmith, and Gene Simmons, who called him a “universally beloved” singularity. Black Sabbath’s simple tribute on X read: “Ozzy Forever.”

Osbourne’s connection to Rolex Magazine reflects his larger-than-life persona. Known for his love of bold, luxurious style, he often sported a Rolex Submariner Date, as well as many Rolex President and Daytona models, their rugged elegance mirroring his gritty yet iconic presence. The watches, like Osbourne, were a symbol of durability and timeless rebellion, a fitting companion for a man who lived life on his own terms.

Ozzy Osbourne leaves behind Sharon, their children Kelly, Jack, and Aimee, and three children from his first marriage to Thelma Riley. His legacy as a pioneer of heavy metal, a reality TV trailblazer, and a cultural icon endures. As he once told Rolling Stone, his obituary would likely begin, “Ozzy Osbourne, the man who bit the head off a bat, died.” Yet, it’s his heart, grit, and music that will echo forever. Rest in peace, Ozzy—you belong to the ages.

The 9 Lives of Ozzy

Like Father, Unlike Son

Ozzy's youngest son Jack, is interviewed with his father on the Howard Stern show, as seen below when he was a little boy.

In this next video we see Jack interviewing his father, Ozzy, which is extremely interesting.

Live Performances

And so, as you hear these words

Telling you now of my state

I tell you to enjoy life

I wish I could, but it's too late

Ozzy had an amazing stage presence and was just as charismatic on stage as off. This first version of Black Sabbath performing Paranoid was shot in Belgium in 1970, and really captures Ozzy's talent and essence.

The ONLY other band I can think of that rocket this hard, from this same era is Led Zeppelin. Now that I think about it, the parallels between Black Sabbath are pretty strong in that they both were from the UK, and formed around the same time in 1968, and both rocked pretty hard. Both bands, had 4 members, with one lead singer, one guitarist, one bass player and one drummer, and they looked similar.

It's fascinating to notice when Ozzy Osbourne speaks on camera, his thick Birmingham accent shines through, but when he sings, like so many British vocalists, he sounds distinctly American!?!! This intriguing quirk of vocal performance occurs as singing stretches out vowels and focuses on melody, smoothing out regional accents into something much more similar to American English. Drawing from American-rooted genres like rock and blues, singers like Ozzy, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and even Led Zeppelin naturally adopt these vocal styles, making their music feel much more universal and accessible to fans worldwide.

I've included this second version of Ozzy Osbourne performing his Black Sabbath classic, Paranoid, recorded 15 years later, showcasing how his singing style and vocal delivery have evolved. It's striking how it almost feels like a different singer and a reimagined song, and notice he is performing with his original Black Sabbath band member at Live Aid in 1985.

Rolex Hotness and Coolness: Cher and Gregg Allman...

...Rolex Music Legend...

Gregg Allman

1947-2017

I originally published this story back on May 27, 2017, just after I discovered that Gregg Allman passed away. Cher recently popped into my head, so I thought it would be great to take another look back at this amazing story. Cher got married to Gregg just three days after her divorce from Sonny Bono became final. At the time, in 1975, Cher was 29 years old, and she married Gregg Allman in Las Vegas, who was 27 at the time. In the photo below we see both Cher and Gregg Allman wearing yellow gold Rolex watches. Gregg Allman arguably represented the leading face and voice of Southern Rock.

Cher just Tweeted this about her loss of Gregg Allman:

Both Cher and Gregg Allman have had unbelievable careers that spanned 5 decades. Cher started her career with her first husband, Sonny Bono and later she married Gregg Allman who is a member of the Allman Brothers and has also had a successful solo career.

Cher and Gregg Allman have both worn Rolex watches though their entire careers. In the this first set of photos below, we see Cher wearing her Rolex Lady Date, and Gregg Allman wearing his stainless steel Rolex Submariner.

Photo above of Cher & Gregg Allman Performing together in Frankfurt, Germany in 1977 appears courtesy of Klaus Hiltscher/Affendaddy

The next three photos in this article were taken by Michael Ochs in Los Angeles, California in 1977. They were taken at a party at Rona Barrett's home.

Cher must dig dudes who wear Rolex GMT's because her first husband Sonny Bono and her second husband Gregg Allman both wore them. Even Cher's daughter/Son Chaz wears one.

In this recent photo (below) we see Gregg Allman wearing his stainless steel Rolex Submariner while he performs.

Below is video footage of The Allman Brothers Band live at Fillmore East in 1970, which was the concert that put them on the map.

Below is a video which features Gregg Allman on Late Night with David Letterman, with a special guest, Red Foxx, who joins them, and notice Red Foxx is wearing a yellow gold Rolex Day-Date. Ronand Reagan was still the President Of The United States when this originally aired in 1987.

A number of celebrity friends paid their respect and said goodbye to Gregg Allman on Twitter:

Quincy Jones Honored at the 15th Governors Awards Presented Exclusively by Rolex...

Quincy Jones

Honored by Oscars Governors Awards
Sponsored by Rolex

Quincy Jones passed away earlier this month, and back on November 4, 2024 I published his obituary which appears in the second half of this story. It turns out that Quincy Jones was looking forward to attending the 15th Governors Awards presented by Rolex, which was an event which was exclusively sponsored by Rolex. In this first video, we see Quincy Jones daughter, Rashida Jones deliver his acceptance speech he wrote, as he planned to attend, just before he unfortunately passed away at age 91:

Legendary actor, Jamie Foxx also gave a speech about his relationship with Quincy Jones, and shares a fascinating anecdote about how Quincy helped him dial-in on playing Ray Charles.

Rolex decorated the Green Room Lounge for the Governors Awards, and did so in a most beautiful Rolex emerald green color way. Rolex also put together a beautiful microsite to showcase their involvement with the Governors Awards.

The Oscars also honored, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who are the children of James Bond, producer, Cubby Broccoli, who ended up taking over the James Bond franchise. Former James Bond actor, Daniel Craig presented Wilson and Broccoli with their award.

I originally published my story on Quincy Jones back on September 23, 2018, when Netflix debuted what they referred to as the "Definitive Documentary" on Quincy Jones life, and it was AMAZING!!! Quincy sports his yellow gold Rolex GMT-Master throughout the documentary as seen below.

Quincy passed away yesterday at age 91, and was an international musical treasure whose career achievements as a composer and arranger remain unparalleled. Ironically, in his Netflix documentary, Quincy quipped, "You only live 26,000 days", which is around 70 years, but Quincy actually lived exactly 33,472 days—to be exact...

The screenshot below from the "QUINCY" documentary shows Quincy Jones playing the piano and on his left wrist we see his yellow gold Rolex GMT-Master and on his right pinkie, we see Quincy wearing Frank Sinatra's yellow gold pinkie ring he wore for 40 years until he passed away. The ring features Frank Sinatra's family crest from Sicily. Frank Sinatra left his pinkie ring to Quincy Jones who has been wearing it ever since.

Fly Me To The Moon

Quincy Jones arranged and conducted the music in the video below that features Frank Sinatra singing with Count Basie playing piano in 1965. This video is considered to be Frank's best performances of "Fly Me To the Moon." Fly Me To The Moon was the first song ever played on the moon—by Buz Aldrin during the Apollo 11 landing. At 9:00minutes into the video you can see Frank wearing his yellow gold pinkie ring as he introduces Quincy Jones.

Frank Sinatra gave Quincy Jones his nickname of "Q", and both men absolutely adored each other.

Quincy Jones produced Michael Jackson's album Thriller, is the best selling international album in history.

The Quincy Jones Documentary was directed and produced by one of Quincy's daughers and is AMAZING...

Quincy Jones learned how to play many different musical instruments when he was young and ended up focusing on playing the trumpet. Quincy (right) is pictured below with Dizzy Gillespie (center) back in 1955 in New York.

Photo above was taken by Herman Leonard in 1955 in New York City:
Joe Gordon, E.V. Perry, Dizzy Gillespie, Carl Warwick & Quincy Jones,

Quincy Jones is pictured below with Dizzy Gillespie who is wearing his trademark Pepsi Rolex GMT-Master back in the 1960s.

It is kind of ironic that Quincy Jones is wearing a GMT-Master a half-century after the photo above was taken!

The screenshot below is from the QUINCY documenary and it shows Dizzy Gillespie wispering to country music legend Willie Neslon and notice Quincy Jones is wearing his yellow gold Rolex GMT-Master.

The wristshot below shows a straight on of Quincy Jones yellow gold Rolex GMT-Master.

I have been publishing Jake's Rolex World for 11 years now, and in that time my banner has never changed, and if you look closely, on the right side you  will notice it features the 50th Anniversary Yellow Gold Rolex GMT-Master with the forsest green dial.

Dr. Dre

Dr. Dre is featured in the Quincy Jones documentary is a podcast recording session that takes place at Quincy's home in Bel Air, California and notice Dr. Dre is wearing his yellow gold Rolex Masterpiece Day-Date.

In the photo below from the Quincy documentary we see a screengrab from a video that was taken decades ago, which shows a young Dr. Dre sporting a yellow Gold Rolex President.
