INTERSTELLAR
I have an interesting Matthew McConaughey story to share with you. One night and I can't remember how it happened, I ended up randomly watching the movie Interstellar. I say randomly because I don't watch many movies these days, and my absolute favorite way to watch a movie is when I have absolutely no idea whatsoever what it is about. This was the case with Interstellar.
Somehow it caught my attention, and I the play button, and it completely blew my mind!!! It is one of the best, most profound science-fiction movies I have ever seen, and I would put it in my top 5 list, along with Star Wars and Blade Runner. It's that good. above is the trailer, but if I were you, and you have not seen it, skip the trailer and just watch the movie. This is a small spoiler alert, but one of the stars of the movie is a wristwatch, that has hidden meaning.
Spoiler Alert
After you have watched the movie, come back and watch the videos below, which include a bonus feature on the Science of Interstellar, along with fascinating video analysis which ads amazing contextual insight.
Astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson who is a longtime Rolex wearer breaks-down the science behind Interstellar in this brilliant video.
After having studied Rolex design language history for so many years, I noticed a great key to Rolex's success was to experiment like crazy, and often times if something didn't initially stick, Rolex would try it again until it stuck or worked, and that appears to be the case with the original Rolex DEEPSEA. The earliest known Rolex DEEPSEA was made in 1956, and the one in the two photos below, which appears courtesy of Fourtane Jewelers in Carmel, California, was made in 1959 and has a beautiful gilt honeycomb dial.
This next example of a Rolex DEEPSEA appears courtesy of Robert Maron, and it was named in the fourth quarter of 1956. One of the obvious questions, was if this watch was intended to be an homage tothe original Rolex DEEPSEA Special Prototypes that set records in 1953 and 1960, and that would be my best guess. Robert Maron points out: "Original stainless steel case is 33mm in diameter by 12mm thick and has a polished finish. The 6532 is popularly thought to share a case with the early Explorers. However, this is not the case (pun intended!). Instead, the 6532 case has straight case sides and thin lugs, which distinguishes it from an Explorer. It is also 1mm in diameter smaller than an Explorer. "

Alejandro González Iñárritu

Alejandro González Iñárritu is a Mexican director who has had an amazing directing career. At the 2015 Academy Awards, he won three Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Birdman (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance.)
The next year he won the Academy Award for Best Director for The Revenant (2105), making him the third director in history to win back to back Academy Awards.
It's always fun to do some Rolex spotting to see who wears a Rolex @ The Academy Awards. Oscars r host Michael Strahan is pictured below on the red carpet interviewing people as he wears his stainless steel Rolex Daytona. In this first photo, Strahan is interviewing Mexican film director, Guillermo del Toro, who swept the 2018 Academy Awards by winning Best Picture, Best Director, & Best Original Screenplay for his movie "The Shape of Water."
In this next image we see Tiffany Haddish being interviewed by Michael Srtahan.
In this next image, we get a great look at Michael Strahan's stainless steel Daytona as he interviews actress, Margot Robbie.
Next up we see Michael Strahan interviewing Lin Manuel Miranda who is the founding star of the musical "Hamilton".
In this last set of images, we see actor Sam Rockwell giving his acceptance speech for having won Best Supporting Actor for his Rolex in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri".

In the photo above we see Gerald Ford, with his wife Betty Ford, sporting his yellow-gold Rolex President wrist-watch also known as the Rolex Day-Date. Rolex always offers a Rolex Day-Date to every President Of The United States, and they did with Gerald Ford, but he refused to accept it for some reason!?!
According to retired Rolex U.S.A., executive, T. Walker Lloyd, after Gerald Ford completed his presidency, he contacted Rolex and said he wished to get his Rolex President. Supposedly Rolex said no, so President Ford went and purchased his from an AD.
In the next photo below we see President Of The United States, Gerald Ford's official portrait photo.
Gerald Ford is pictured below with Jimmy Carter, to whom he lost the 1976 Presidential Election. Notice Ford is wearing his Rolex Day-Date.
Gerald Ford is pictured above with President Ronald Reagan on June 29, 1981, and he is pictured below with his predecessor, Richard Nixon.
Legendary golfer, Arnold Palmer is pictured below in the Oval Office with President Ford, who was an avid golfer. NoticeArnold Palmer is wearing his same Rolex Day-Date on his wrist.

This is a really interesting customized stainless steel Rolex Daytona, with a dial from a white gold Daytona along with white gold solid end links? What a great looking watch!!!
Rolex Golden Girl 2018 Winter Olympics Medal Winner
Lindsey Vonn during her 2018 Olympic run by Doug Mills/ The New York Times
You may have read my recent article on Rolex Ambassador, Lindsey Vonn as she prepared to compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Lindsey Vonn recently won the Bronze medal at the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games. Lindsey is 33 years old today, which likely means this was her last Olympic performance, although you never know...
So let's begin by taking a close look at the bejeweled 41MM yellow gold Rolex Day-Date II she was wearing. Lindsey's model features a baguette diamond bezel with a diamond and ruby dial.
Lindsey Vonn set a record as she was the first American woman to ever win a gold medal in the Winter Olympics for downhill skiing when she won back in 2010. By winning the bronze medal at the 2018 winter Olympics, Lindsey set another record when she became the oldest woman to ever win a medal in the downhill skiing event.
Lindsey Vonn's Olympic experience was extremely emotional for her as you will learn by watching these videos about her relationship with her beloved Grandfather. Alert: Watching these highly emotional videos will probably make you cry...and hopefully smile as well...
"I wanted to win for my grandfather but I didn't. But I think he would still be proud of me for bronze, and I think that's what counts. My family is proud of me and I'm proud of myself. Today bronze to me feels like gold."
Historically Rolex has always been extremely secretive and discreet, and no journalists in the past have ever been invited "INSIDE ROLEX" to explore and report on all four Rolex Manufacturing faclities in Switzerland.
In November 2013, this changed when Rolex invited Jake to take an unprecdented journey into the heart of Rolex to learn and report on everything he witnessed and learned.
This Super-Detailed 3 Part Story is a "MUST READ" story for anybody who wants to understand what really makes Rolex tick.
