The Return Of The Toolwatch Reduced To The Max

The Return Of The Toolwatch
–Reduced To The Max–

Bulibeer Goes Back to the Future

As the editor and publisher of Jake's Rolex World, people often ask me why I have invested so much of my life energy in researching and publishing Rolex history and news and design analysis? I do it because I am so passionate about Timeless Design, and because I have been fascinated with Rolex for the last 30 years!!!

Also, I think the vast majority of books and magazine articles about Rolex history, are boring and lame!!! Seriously!!! If you are a daily reader of Jake's Rolex World, you know that I am also its biggest fan. In other words, often after I have published new stories, I just go cruising around Jake's Rolex World as a reader, and I often get happily lost in magnificent Rolex history jungle.

The challenge is I have to basically have to roll my own Rolex content to enjoy it, but rarely, and I mean very rarely, I will come across a gem I really enjoy and learn from. Today I am very pleased to share a link with you to another Rolex blog which is published by my pal Bernhard. Bernhard publishes 100PERCENT-Rolex [The blog for Rolex Passionado's].

I need to preface sharing this story with you, with another anecdote. I remember when I first began blogging about Rolex almost 5 years ago, there were no other Rolex blogs. I was actually hesitant to start a blog about Rolex because I thought I might run out of things to share...boy was I wrong!!! Anyway, I used to spend a lot of time on different Rolex forums all over the web. I even got banned from RolexForums.com for posting too many pictures of celebrities wearing Rolex watches!?!?!, which explains whey I started Jake's Rolex World.

I remember when I started seriously checking out different Rolex forums, being confused about all the esoteric and often arcane nomenclature. Terms and acronyms like WIS (Watch Idiot Savant), Guilt dials, Maxi Markers, SEL (Solid End Links), Big Crown, Coronet, Tool Watch, Supercase, Pepsi GMT, Coke GMT, Rootbeer GMT...It took me a long time to make heads or tails of the secret language that Rolex aficionados speak, so I have to warn you before I send you to enjoy reading Bernhard's article. Bernhard speaks the most fluent Rolexspeak, which might be a little confusing, and that is not a bad thing.

Basically Bernhard is a like a third or fourth degree blackbelt in Rolex collecting and knowledge, and yes I know some of the absolute Zen master's of Rolex collecting that are like 100th degree Rolex black belts. I realize I am the worlds leading Rolex historian, but there is rarely a day that goes by, where I don't learn something new about Rolex history and detail, and that of course is what makes it so absolutely interesting.

Bernhard's fascinating article/review discusses whey he is in LOVE or LUST with his new all-stainless steel Rolex Submariner [Reference 114060], which is an all-new Rolex model. Berhnard typically only loves vintage Rolex watches "because vintage watches have so much style, individual looks and character" Bernhard compares and contrasts the all-new Rolex Submariner 114060 with many of the vintage Rolex Submariner's and draws some amazing conclusions. Enjoy!!! I know I did, and if you get a little confused, by his RolexSpeak or parlance, don't worry, in time you will learn all–Grasshopper...

Roger Federer Wins Wimbledon 2012 Championship

...Rolex Super Coolness...
The Greatest Tennis Player In History

Roger Federer
Wins Wimbledon 2012 Championship

Wimbledon is considered to be the greatest tennis tournament in the world. Today, the greatest tennis player in history, Roger Federer, continued his rendezvous with history as he won the Wimbledon 2012 Championship for the 7th time in his career, thus tying Pete Sampras as the only other person to win 7 Wimbledon Championships.

Rolex sponsored and was the official timekeeper for Wimbledon 2012, and of course Roger Federer is a Rolex ambassador, so we see him below with his Wimbledon Championship trophy, which matches his Rolex Day-Date II.

Roger's 41 mm Rolex Day-Date II looks like it is Rose Gold, or as Rolex calls it "Everose Gold." Upon close inspection, Roger's Rolex Day-Date appears to have baguette diamond and ruby indices on the black dial.

Earnest Borgnine

Earnest Borgnine passed away today at age 95!!! He is one of the most beloved actors in history, and he is pictured below in 1981 with his wife, he is still married to, and he notice he is sporting his Rolex Submariner.

Earnest Borgnine is perhaps best known for his role in McHale's Navy (1962-1966), and before that, in 1955 he won an Academy Award for Best Actor in his leading role in the movie, Marty. Borgnine also starred in Airwolf in the 1980s. Most recently, Earnest Borgnine experienced critical acclaim for his role as Mermaid Man in the cartoon series named SpongeBob SquarePants.

In the photo below we see a cast publicity shot from McHale's Navy, which has a major deja vu effect on me ;-)

Tiger Passes Jack Nicklaus To 2nd Place On Career List
74th Career Victory

Tiger Woods just won his 74th career victory at the ATT National, and passed up fellow Rolex Ambassador, Jack Nicklaus to move into 2nd place on the all-time career list, to put him 8 short of Sam Sneed's all-time record. Just to put things into perspective, Sam Sneed had 82 career PGA wins, Tiger Woods has 74, Jack Nicklaus 73, and Ben Hogan at 64.

Tiger Woods has been on a roll with winning lately, and we see him pictured below on June 2, 2012 at the Memorial Tournament holding up his trophy with his now trademark Rolex DEEPSEA. Many people counted Tiger out, but it is now crystal-clear that Tiger Woods is back with a vengeance!!!

Clark Gable The King Of Hollywood

Clark Gable
The King Of Hollywood

Yellow Gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual

Academy Award Winner for Best Actor

As the editor an publisher of Jake's Rolex World, one of my absolute favorite things is when I discover that somebody who I always admired wore a Rolex. Events like this typically occur a few times a year, if I am lucky. Today I am extremely happy to share that I recently discovered the story of Clark Gable wearing a Rolex!!!

Why is finding Clark Gable wearing a Rolex so profound!?! Because Clark Gable is probably one of the top 5 coolest guys that ever lived. I would put him right up there with Steve McQueen, Cary Grant, Paul Newman and Sean Connery.

The recent photo below is of Clark Gable's actual Rolex Oyster Perpetual which is currently in the hands of a private collector. The watch is a beautiful Rolex originally retailed by Brock & Company, and it has the 3, 6, 9 &12 indices in raised yellow gold arabic numerals, along with lumed Leaf hands. Also, notice the yellow gold bezel has 5 minute markers with hairline sub second etching between the markers.

The wrist shot photo below shows a close-up of the photo above. As you will see later in this story, Clark Gable wore different bracelets with on the same wrist with his Rolex.

Mogambo 1953

The next two photos below, are from the 1953 movie named Mogambo which Clark Gable starred in along with Grace Kelly and Ava Gardneer. Clark Gable wore his Rolex Oyster throughout the movie.

This last photo of Clark Gable was taken in 1960, and it shows Clark Gable sporting his Rolex, looking very sporty and stylish. Ironically, he was only 59 years old when this photo was taken, and later that year he died.

Ferrari Chairman & Lifetime Rolex Fan...

...Rolex Coolness...

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo
Ferrari Chairman & Lifetime Rolex Fan

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo is the Chairman of Ferrari and Fiat. He has had an amazing career filled with many achievements. For many decades, Luca has been a big Rolex sport watch fan.

In the photo below, we see a close-up wrist shot which reveals Luca wearing a vintage Rolex Submariner 5512 or 5513, on a leather strap.

In the photo below, we see Luca at the unveiling of the all-new Ferrari FF1.

As I mentioned earlier, Luca has been a Rolex Sport Model fan for many decades, and in this next photo, from the early 1970s we see Luca sporting his Rolex GMT-Master.

In this recent photo we see Luca still sporting his vintage Pepsi Rolex GMT-Master. Luca has been sporting a Rolex GMT for at-least 4 decades!!!

In this next photo we see Ferrari Chairman, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo introducing the all-new 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia Supercar.

Here is an Autocar video review of the the all-new Ferrari 458 Italia.

The head of Ferrari wearing a Rolex is nothing new. Luca's predecessor, Ferrari founder, Enzo Ferrari wore a Rolex as well. Vintage Ferrari automobiles, just like vintage Rolex watches, have continued to appreciate significantly over time.

Luca is not the only head of an Italian sports car company to wear a Rolex Sport watch. Stephan Winklemann, CEO of Lamborghini also wears Rolex Sport Watch.
