50th Anniversary Celebration: March On Washington August 28, 1963

50th Anniversary Jubilee Celebration

I HAVE A DREAM SPEECH
March On Washington
August 28, 1963

This coming Wednesday, August 28th marks the 50th Anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington, as well as the extremely iconic I Have A Dream Speech. This event is of great significance and arguably represents the last great moral moment in American history. This entire week, I will be covering the significance of this event in detail.

If you read my super-detailed story, posted below this story, you will see I pointed out that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., in my opinion, is the greatest hero in history to wear a Rolex.

In Rolex's most recent ad campaign, as seen below, Rolex has included Dr. King in their ad campaign. I must admit that when I saw this, it not only brought tears to my eyes, but also made the tens of thousands of hours I have spent researching and chronicling Rolex history completely worth while.

A few months ago, I put together a Photoshop Rolex Magazine Ad Design Contest, and in it I created this mock-up. Just to be clear, this is not a Rolex ad, it is one I created, which I would love to see in magazines and on billboards. It also seems fitting that somehow that Dr. King, has the Rolex crown next to him. Something about a King needs his Rolex Crown, or something like that?

He's Got The Whole World In His Hands
1964 Nobel Peace Prize Winner

I also created the Rolex ad mock-up below, which shows Dr. Martin Luther King holding his Nobel Peace Prize, and you can see his trademark yellow gold Rolex Datejust on his wrist. I used an actual Rolex advertising slogan that was popular at the time this photo was taken in 1964. I don't believe the Rolex slogan from the mid 1960s, could be any more apropos and on-point in 1964 when the photo below was taken, and in hindsight, it is even more so today.

Another supreme irony with the Rolex slogan "WHEN A MAN HAS A WORLD IN HIS HANDS YOU EXPECT TO FIND A ROLEX ON HIS WRIST", is that gospel singer Mahalia Jackson sang the song "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands", just before Dr. King gave his "I Have A Dream Speech." This is likely a coincidence, but it sure does resonate beautifully. In the video piece at the end of this post you can see a short snipped of Mahalia Jackson singing "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands."

I highly recommend watching Dr. King's Nobel Prize Acceptance speech which is very profound.

This next photo shows Dr. Martin Luther King in the White House Oval Office with President Kennedy just after Dr. King gave his iconic I Have A Dream Speech.

“One cannot help but be impressed with the deep fervor and the quiet dignity that characterized the thousands who have gathered in the Nation’s Capital…this Nation can properly be proud of the demonstration that has occurred here today.” - President Kennedy, Remarks following the March on Washington

This next image is extremely profound as it offers an unusual view from behind Abraham Lincoln's statue located in the Lincoln Memorial, in Washington D.C., and we witness Abraham Lincoln witnessing what he set out to achieve. The symbology behind this image is amazing if you think about it!!! It is also a profound irony that Abraham Lincoln was also likely assassinated for trying to protect people that could not protect themselves.

"Beyond the reflecting pool, stand the dignified columns of the Lincoln Memorial. Whoever would understand in his heart the meaning of America will find it in the life of Abraham Lincoln." –U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

The Greatest & Most Iconic Speech In History

Martin Luther King Jr's, I Have A Dream speech is one of the deepest and most profound speeches any man has ever given. I very, very, very highly recommend you watch and enjoy Dr. Martin Luther King's complete speech as seen in the video below.

Below is a great video discussion about the historical significance of Dr. Kings Legendary Speech, as seen in the video above.

Harrison Ford & Rolex...

...Rolex Super Coolness...

Harrison Ford
Greatness Endures

The $7 Billion Man

Who is the coolest guy who ever wore a Rolex? Some would argue Steve McQueen, some would say it was Paul Newman, or Robert Redford. Some would say it would have to be Sean Connery, or Daniel Craig. Others might insist it was Chuck Yeager, or Jacques-Yves Cousteau.

I would say, Harrsion Ford may be the single coolest guy to ever wear Rolex, and if he is not, he would definitely be in the top pantheon of Rolex wearers. In my opinion, Harrison Ford is probably the greatest actor who ever lived, with the exception of Cary Grant. Harrison Ford's movies have grossed $7 Billion to date!!!

Frank Sinatra said it best, "There is something to be said for things that endure." One thing Harrison Ford and Rolex have in common is they are Legends that have both endured quite well with common adjectives coming to mind like rugged, masculine, handsome, timeless, and charismatic–just to name a few.

We see Harrison Ford pictured above wearing his Stainless Steel Rolex Datejust with a Jubilee Bracelet, and White Porcelain Dial with black  Roman Numerals.

Harrison Ford has played some of the most iconic characters in modern movie history, and as I write this he is preparing to resurrect at least two of them, including Han Solo in Star Wars 7, as well as starring in another Indiana Jones movie!!!

Ridley Scott, the director of Blade Runner recently announced he is planning to direct Blade Runner 2, and they are currently working on developing the script. Who knows, but Harrison Ford may play Rick Decker in Blade Runner 2, which would be really cool!!!

The Original Star Wars Cast

In the photo below we see Harrison Ford (Han Solo) kissing Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), as he pushes away Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) in a promo image. Notice Harrison Ford is wearing his trademark Rolex Datejust which has a Jubilee bracelet.

Return Of Han Solo

Lucasfilm recently announced that they are preparing an all-new Star Wars trilogy, which will be directed by J.J. Abrams, who, ironically directed the two most recent, ultra-succesful Star Trek Movies!!!

The recent photo below shows original Star Wars Trilogy cast members Billy Dee Williams (Age 76), Carrie Fisher (Age 56), Harrison Ford (Age 71), Peter Mayhew (Age 69)[Chewbacca The Wookie], and Mark Hamill (Age 61).  Yes, you guessed it! They are all returning to their roles in the upcoming Star Wars trilogy, which begins with Episode 7. Filming begins in 2014, for a Summer 2015 release!!! And yes, John Williams (Age 81) has once again been selected to create the soundtrack for Star Wars Episode 7...

Speaking of Star Wars, the video below shows Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, recently being interviewed, and he does a great Hans Solo impression. Mark also talks about the upcoming Star Wars movies. It is amazing how charismatic and entertaining Mark Hamill is. What a fascinating dude!!!

Indiana Jones

Raiders Of The Lost Ark
1981

In 2008 Harrison Ford reprised his role as Indiana Jones, in the movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four photos below are from the 2008 movie, and it seems like Harrison Ford had not even aged.

The movie was not great, but it was great to see Harrison Ford as Indian Jones again, on the big screen.

You must admit Harrison Ford looked Great at 66 Years old!!!

If you think about it, Indiana Jones is really to closest thing there is to an American James Bond.

Blade Runner
1982

This is a fascinating interview on David Letterman from 1982 that aired just after Harrison Ford Completed filming Bladerunner.

The video interview above is fascinating, so I thought I would add this recent David Letterman interview with Harrison Ford.

The photo above and the two photos below of Harrison Ford were taken in 1990 and we wee him wearing his stainless steel Rolex Datejust. The two photos below show Harrsion Ford with Ray Liotta in 1990, which was the years that Ray Liotta starred in the seminal gangster film, Good Fellas.

Harrison Ford is pictured below with Brad Pitt in 1997, and we see Harrsion Ford wearing his trademark Rolex Datejust.

Lee Trevino & Jack Nicklaus

Lee Trevino & Jack Nicklaus
Two Golf Legends Wearing Rolex

Lee Trevino is considered to be one of the great golfers of the fourth quarter of the twentieth century. Lee won the U.S. open in 1968 and 1971, and he won The Open Championship in 1971 and 1972. He is pictured below with fellow golf legend, Jack Nicklaus. Lee Trevino is of Mexican American descent and is considered to be an icon and role model in the Mexican American community.

The photo below shows Lee Travino and Jack Nicklaus together at the 1971 U.S. Open. Lee Travino duked-it-out with Jack Nicklaus in an 18 hole playoff, and prevailed.

It appears Lee Trevino is wearing a stainless steel Datejust in the photo above and a GMT Master or Submariner in the photo below.
