The Human Kind Greening Your Future

The Human Kind
Greening Your Future
Taking Care Of Mother Earth

Peter Gross from Denmark is a reader of Jake's Rolex Watch Blog and he sent in an email to share information about The Human Kind Project which you can visit by clicking here.

Peter wrote:

"Hi Jake,

Sorry about not being Rolex specific but I think people with a passion for endurance in design and high standard of quality and workmanship in the things we buy, also share a common interest in the environment we live in.

We're all aware of the ongoing debate about global warming and right now in this moment the COP15, United Nations Climate Change Conference is taking place here in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Danish Microphone company, DPA Microphones A/S, has just released The Human Kind–a song to save the climate.

About the project:

Greening Your Future

Released in September 2009 to raise awareness of climate change issues, this song encourages participants of the UN's Climate Change Conference (COP15) to make the right decisions.

The Human Kind features well known artists such as Maggie Reilly, Stig Kreutzfeldt, James Sampson and Marie Carmen Koppel.

All proceeds benefit the Buffelsdraai Community Reforestation Project in Durban, South Africa. Supported by DANIDA, this project aims to plant 82.000 indigenous trees in the buffer zone of a regional waste landfill site. The carbon that these trees sequester will contribute to Durban’s goal of hosting a carbon-neutral or climate friendly FIFA Soccer World Cup 2010.

The indigenous forest that will result will have major ecological and socio-economic benefits. The biodiversity of the area will be restored, ecosystem services like reduction in soil erosion and protection of water quality will be improved and the local communities will benefit from employment and income generation opportunities.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

I (Jake) would like to thank Peter for taking the time to share this information with us and I would like to add my perspective on the issue of Global Warming.

There are two sides to every coin and many, many, many scientists argue that Global Warming is very real and poses a huge threat to the future of Mother Earth.

I refer to the planet we all share as "Mother Earth" because it is the only world we have and know. I am not a treehugger but I think we should have a symbiotic relationship with our planet.

The way I look at it is if Global Warming is real, we should be doing everything we can to counter the effects, and if it is not real and many world-class scientists are hallucinating, I believe we should be doing the exact same things to take care of Mother Earth as if Global Warming does exist.

Just to be crystal clear, I am saying I think Global Warming is real, but even it if is not, I think humanity should do everything it can to take care of Earth. For instance, I can't understand why in the United States, or in every country for that matter, why all new home construction is not required to have a solar system and airborne water collection system that takes the house off the grid!?!

Creating such a system would be great for the economy and would put zillions of people to work!!!

Anyway, I would like to thank Peter Gross for sharing and ask all of Jake's Rolex Watch Blog readers to do everything they can to help Mother Earth.

Random Retro Video of the Day: Jordache Jeans

Introducing
Random Retro Video Of The Day
"You Got The Look I Want To Know Better" with Jordache Jeans

One of my favorite things about Jake's Rolex Watch Blog is exploring history. Not just Rolex history, but history in general. I think it is fascinating from an anthropological perspective to examine social moires, design standards and fashion references, so I decided from to add a new feature named Random Retro Video.

Random Retro Video will simply be something I enjoy and want to share with you. Some people are only interested in their own generation, but I have always been fascinated with past history.

Jessica, who is an old friend of mine and a reader of Jake's Rolex Watch Blog shares my fond appreciation for nostalgia and she sent in the first video that was a Jordache Jeans commercial from 1979 which I think I remember. I know Bernhard (Bullibeer) from Denmark is going to like this ;-)))

French Tennis Great: Yannick Noah

Noah is most famous for his "Between the Legs Shot" which you can check out by clicking here.

He is also know for being really funny on the court and notice he wears his watch when he plays which is very unusual:

Guillaume's Single Red Submariner

For some reason I can never seem to get enough of the Single Red Submariner models. This one is unusual because Guillaume put a crystal on it with no cyclops lets, which gives the watch a SEA-DWELLER vibe.

Rolex Coolness: Jean Claude Van Damme...

Rolex Coolness: Jean Claude Van Damme
One Of The Great Martial Artists
A Career With Rolex On His Wrist

Jean Claude Van Damme is one bad-ass dude and one of the greatest martial artists that ever lived–even been compared to Bruce Lee. If you don't believe me, click here.

Here is another great martial art scene that shows how great of a martial artist Jean-Claude is.

This is a fascinating 1991 interview with Arsenio Hall interviewing Jean-Claude Van Damme and Jean-Claude is wearing a yellow gold Rolex Daytona almost 20 years ago.

Bruce Lee
The Master

Since we are looking at martial arts we gotta check out Bruce Lee who started the whole thing. In his early career in the United States, Bruce Lee played Kato on the TV show, The Green Hornet.

Of course, Bruce Lee went on to make great action movies like Enter The Dragon and Game Of Death.

Turn the volume way up!!!!

This is a scene from the 1978 movie, Game Of Death which is one of the most famous Bruce Lee fight scenes where he fights with Kareem Abdul Jabbar who is one of the greatest basketball players in history:

This is a really fascinating full-lenght interview with Bruce Lee!!!!:
