Charlie's Angels Rolex Watches...

...Rolex Super-Hotness...

Charlie's Angels

Rolex Hotness & Pop Culture Phenomenon

Charlie's Angels was not just about Big Hair, Trim Feminine Hotness, and lots of Bathing Suits, but it was one of the most iconic pop-culture TV Shows in the later 1970s. Charlie's Angels aired new episodes from 1976 to 1981. The show was not just a poplar institution, but more of a cultural phenomenon that went on to become a cult classic.

Charlie's Angles featured some of the most beautiful women on TV, and I discovered—and published for the first time—back in 2016 the entire original cast of Angels wore Ladies Rolex Watches!!! If you watched Charlies Angel's back in the day, watching the opening credits below will Deja Vu you out!

Fallen Rolex Angels

In the photos below we see Cheryl Ladd, Farrah Fawcett Majors and Jaclyn Smith all wearing Ladies Rolex Datejust watches. This images were taken on the set of the Season 4 episode named "Fallen Angels", which featured Farrah Fawcett's return as an Angel.

The next four screenshots were taken from the episode above and the first three images show Farah Fawcett and Cheryl Ladd BOTH rockin' yellow gold Rolex Lady Datejust models!?!!

The photo below of the yellow gold 28MM Rolex Lady-Datejust appears courtesy of Jomashop. This model is very similar to the models Farrah and Cheryl are wearing in the screengrabs above and below, but their models like feature the champagne dial, as apposed to the silver dial pictured below. The 28MM Rolex Lady-Datejust in yellow gold with the President bracelet is one of the most icon Rolex ladies watches of all time. In the 1970s and 1980s it was considered to be the ultimate Rolex for most women.

So why and I posting so many photos of Farah and Cheryl? Why not? It probably has something to do with the fact I was MADLY in love with both of them when I was 10-12 years old, and seeing them together, both wearing yellow gold Rolex Lady Datejust models just blows my mind!

It's fascinating to realize that some of the most iconic TV and Movie actor and actresses wore Rolex watches right in front of me, but at the time I was too young to notice.

This next show it also taken from Fallen Angels and shows Jaclyn Smith wearing her Lady-Datejust.

From a historical perspective, it is interesting to note that none of Charlie's Angels are wearing what, then was considered to men's size Rolex watches. Instead, they were all wearing the more feminine, petite 28mm Datejust and Lady-Date models.

At the time, many of the most popular and successful super-models and actresses wore Rolex Lady Date models, including Cheryl Tiegs, who is picture below.

Sophia Loren, is also pictured below in the later half of the 1970s, and she is wearing her yellow gold Rolex Lady Datejust on an Oyster Bracelet. If you want to learn more about the history of women wearing Rolex be sure to check out my article titled, "The Complete History Of The Rolex Woman—The Evolution Of The Female Archetype." article.

Jaclyn Smith was one of the three original Charlie's Angels, and she is pictured below with fellow angels, Farah Fawcett Majors and Kate Jackson in 1976. Don't Charlie's Angels look like dolls in the unusual photo below?

In many ways, Charlie's Angels were the archetype for modern beauty. In other words, up through the 1960s, women with lots of curves, like Marilyn Monroe, were considered to be the ideal. In the mid 1970s that all changed, and skinny really became the standard for feminine beauty. This is not a judgement, so much as it is an observation.

Looking at all the photos of Jaclyn Smith makes me realize how over-the-top beautiful she was!!! Just stunning!!! Jaclyn was also the only original Charlie's Angel that remained on Charlies' Angels for its complete run from 1976 to 1981.

I remember watching Charlie's Angels on TV in 1976 when I was 10 years old, and I remember being madly in love with all three Angels!!! As I previously mentioned all three of the original Charlie's Angels wore Rolex watches, so let's take a look at them.

Farah Fawcett Majors
The Most Iconic and All-American Angel

Farah Fawcett Majors was not only a major sex symbol of the 1970s, but a media sensation of the highest order. She is pictured below wearing a yellow-gold Rolex Lady Date. She played the role of Jill Munroe on Charlie's Angels.

The 'Farah Fawcett' bathing suit poster seen below in considered to be the best selling poster in history, having sold more than 8 Million copies, and yes I had one in 1976, when I was 10 years old...

The Farah Fawcett Poster

Farah Fawcett was probably most famous for her hairstyle, which was known as the "Farah" hairstyle. Farah was so successful, iconic and famous, she basically became the Marilyn Monroe of the 1970s.

The photo below of Farah Fawcett Majors skateboard is from a famous series of photos. I had those same wheels on my skateboard. They were called Road Rider Wheels.

Farah Fawcett is pictured below wearing her yellow Gold Rolex Lady-Date.

Farah Fawcett Majors was married to Lee Majors, who also had a huge hit TV show which began in 1973 with the movie "The Six Million Dollar Man", which Lee Majors played the role os Steve Austin, the first bionic man. The Six Million Dollar man was not only a pop-culture phenomenon, but also an institution in-and-of-itself.

Below is the original opening and closing theme for the Six Million Dollar man, which brings back some serious memories for me. Just as Charlie's Angles were the archetype for the ultimate 1970s woman, the Six Million Dollar man was the same, expect for a man.

The action adventure/science-fiction themed Six Million Dollar Man TV show ran for 5 seasons from 1974 through 1978, and was based upon three TV pilot movies, with the same name which all aired in 1973.

Farrah and Lee Majors are pictured below chatting with legendary actor, Jimmy Stewart.

Jaclyn Smith
Timeless Natural Beauty

Four Amazing Decades With Rolex Keeping The Time Of Her Life

Actress Jaclyn Smith is best known for being on the 1970s American TV series, Charlie's Angels, where she played the role of Kelly Garrett. The next photo, taken in the 1970s, shows Jaclyn Smith wearing her two-tone Rolex ladies Datejust.

One of the most fascinating things I enjoy about publishing Jake's Rolex World, is discovering people I grew up watching on TV or in movies that wore Rolex watches, back in the day.  Take for instance, the Jaclyn Smith magazine ad below for Martini & Rossi (on the rocks). I may have seen this ad when I was a kid, but since I was not aware of Rolex as young child, I likely did not notice Jaclyn's Rolex.

Looking at these photographs today, in a historical context gives me an even fonder appreciation for Rolex history, as well as the world I grew up in, and often took for granted.

"Say 'Yes' To Martini & Rossi On The Rocks"

This next photo below originally appeared in People magazine in the 1980s, and it shows Jaclyn Smith at home with her husband Tony Richmond, who is a noted cinematographer, and their son Gaston. Notice Tony is sporting a Rolex Datejust on a Jubilee bracelet.

In this recent photo of Jaclyn Smith, we see her wearing a two-tone Rolex Daytona. Jaclyn Smith was not only a superstar beauty on Charlie's Angels, but went on to be an extremely successful entrepreneur in the early 1980s with developing and marketing her own clothing and perfume lines.

Jaclyn is not just 'another pretty face', but but and amazingly successful entrepreneur and business pioneer. Before Oprah, before Martha Stewart, Jaclyn was the first celebrity to develop her own brand, instead of just endorsing others.

Kate Jackson
The Cutest Angel

Kate Jackson starred as Sabrina Duncan on Charlie's Angels. Basically she play the role of the more witty Angel.

Cheryl Ladd
The Hottest Angel

Farah Fawcett Majors retired from Charlie's Angels after the first season, and Cheryl Ladd replaced her and played the rolex of Jill Monroe's little sister, Chris Munroe. Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the hottest Angel of them All? All of Charlie's Angels are gorgeous, but I have to admit my favorite is Cheryl Ladd.

Farah Fawcett Majors had the most iconic poster in history, and Cheryl Ladd also had some majorly successful posters. I had the one below and it completely Deja Vu's me out looking at it today :-)

So let's get back to looking at Cheryl Ladd's Rolex watch. In the photo below we see her wearing her yellow gold Rolex Lady-Date while posting for a photo with fellow actor, Jeff Conaway. Jeff was on the 1970 sitcom mega-hit named Taxi. He also costarred with John Travolta in the 1978 blockbuster movie, Grease.

Cheryl Ladd is pictured below with Shaun Cassidy (Hardy Boys) in 1977, at which time in history they were most famous and sought after actor and actress in the world.

1942 Rolex Error Proof Dial Poster

1942 Rolex Error Proof Dial Poster

I LOVE this magnificent Rolex Art-Deco poster from 1942 which features their Error-Proof dial. I wrote an article years ago that featured this poster and it was titled, "California Dreaming: The Complete History of the California Dial."

I was chatting with Nick Gould about this really cool Rolex poster and he profoundly observed:

"Funny you should post about the error proof dial recently. The Mercedes hour hand debuted with the dial in the 40s and is one of the Crowns oldest designs still in use today Over 80 years! Got resurrected for the Rolex Explorer, Submariner, GMT-Master And Turn-O-Graph"

Then Nick eruditely shared the following image with me and pointed out:

"Rolex did a diamond shaped hour hand in the 40s but for the shortest of times." Nick shared this fascinating vintage Rolex ad from 1948 which appeared in The Indian Listener, which shows a Rolex model with the diamond hand:

Nick shared the image below and said, "I've only seen one watch with the diamond hour hand, which was more like a wand, technically..."

Michael Ovitz Hollywood Superagent...

...Rolex Super-Coolness...
Michael Ovitz
Hollywood Superagent

I share many stories on Jake's Rolex World about fascinating people that wear Rolex watches, but this one is different. I first became aware of Michael Ovitz back in the 1980s and was fascinated by his amazing career achievements. In my mind, Michael Ovitz is kind of the epitome, or poster boy for a successful 1980s business magnate—in a good way. In the photo below we see Ovitz wearing his vintage white dial Paul Newman Daytona.

Michael Ovitz has worn Rolex watches for at least four decades. In the photo below taken in 1987, we see Michael Ovitz on the Roof of CAA (Creative Artists Agency) and notice he is wearing a yellow gold Rolex Day-Date.

Michael Ovitz just came out with a book named "WHO IS MICHAEL OVITZ?" which is pictured below. In this book Ovitz opens up and shares many interesting details about his life and takes the opportunity to clarify around many misconceptions.

Michael Ovitz began his career in Hollywood working in the mailroom at the William Morris agency and went on to co-found Creative Artists Agency with his then business partner, Ron Meyer. In the photo below that appears courtesy of Michael Ovitz, we see Ron Meyer and Michael Ovitz in the 1980s at the Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France. Notice Ovitz is sporting his yellow gold Rolex Day-Date.

CAA was by far and away the most powerful talent agency in Hollywood in the 1980s through the 1990s. Jerry Seinfeld and Shoshanna Lonstein are pictured in 1995 below with Michael Ovitz just after he successfully renegotiated Jerry Seinfeld's record-setting per episode contract with NBC.

Michael Ovitz left CAA in late 1995 to become the president of the Walt Disney Company.

I have never met Michael Ovitz, but in many ways, it seems like I know him. In other words, I have studied his guiding principles and career. In an interesting twist of fate, I have a friend who was very close to Ovitz and would share some amazing personal insight into what made him tick. This information was in the form of positive anecdotes about principles that governed Ovitz' life. In this story, I will share some of these unique insights with you, as they had a profound effect on my personal life.

The Art Of War

Every Battle Is Won Before It's Fought.

–Sun Tzu

One of Michael Ovitz's favorite books of all time was Sun Tzu's epic tome titled "The Art Of War." As Michael Douglas' character Gordon Gekko said in the classic 1980s movie, Wall Street, to his aspiring protege Bud Fox, who was played by Charlie Sheen: "Read Sun Tzu, The Art of War. Every battle is won before it is ever fought."

Michael Ovitz put Sun Tzu's premise from The Art of War in modern language when he said, as seen in the quote below, "You have to know where you're going to come out before you go in":

"The past is prologue...perception is EVERYTHING...To present a united front is vital. "You should never go anywhere alone. "Every detail is important.  Where do you have a meeting? What is the surrounding environment?  People who don't think about these things have a harder time in business.   It's got to be the right place.  It's got to be the right color.  It's got to be the right choice.  Everything has to be strategized.  You have to know where you're going to come out before you go in.  Otherwise, you lose."

—Michael Ovitz

Ovitz on Success

Michael Ovitz was once asked what made him successful, to which he responded: "Read 3 books:  Aristotle on Ethics, The Tao Te Ching, and watch Magic Johnson play basketball."

I recall Michael Ovitz's favorite line from The Tao Te Ching was, "Do that which result's in taking no action, and order will prevail." The idea I believe was that often times if you don't react or overreact, things have a habit of working themselves out.

I also recall Ovitz saying the amazing thing about the way Magic Johnson played basketball was that there were many times Magic could have easily shown off and scored an easy shot, but he would commonly pass the ball to his Lakers teammates to let them score.

In the photo above we see Michael Ovitz wearing a stainless steel Rolex Explorer II, and in the photo below we see Ovitz at a Lakers game with actor Jack Nickolson.

Ovitz on Risk

Michael Ovitz once said:

"I've always felt I was on a mission.  I've always had the point of view that I could do anything...My whole life has been about risk and reward...I have always made my decisions based on two factors: Intellectual analysis and my gut.  And when they meet, that's a go for me.  That's when I see the goal.

Today Michael Ovitz is working in Silicon Valley as a venture capitalist and in the photo below we see him with Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. IN the photo below we see Michael Ovitz in 2009 wearing a stainless ceramic GMT-Master.

Ovitz on Work

Michael Ovitz is known for his hardcore work ethic. In many ways, he would make any goal he wanted to achieve into a default game. He believed in the axiom of "Destabilize and conquer." He kept his office in immaculate condition and always had a bowl with three fresh floating gardenias, which created a zen-like fresh vibe.

Ovitz was highly methodical, social and communicative. He had a system called his red-dot system in which he would maintain a long list of people he felt were important and he would call them on a regular basis and almost always spoke on a headset. He typically would call and say: "Hi ____. I'm calling to check-in." Then he would ask "What's new?" He made a habit of listening much more than speaking, and would carefully figure out what people liked and didn't. He was also very praising and one of his favorite compliments was to say, "You're the best!"

Michael Ovitz was really into giving people meaningful gifts. In his offices at CAA, they had a special gift closet, that looked like the gift wrap store in Macy's. On a regular basis, he would graciously give clients and friends superb gifts that he knew they would love. Of course, this endeared them to him even more.

Rashomon

One of Michael Ovitz's favorite movies is Rashomon, which was directed by Akir Kurosawa in 1950 and released in 1951. Rashomon is considered to be one of the greatest movies of all time and won an honorary award at the 24th Academy Awards in 1952.

Rashomon is a movie which is built on a fascinating plot premise that involves multiple characters and how they all witness the same event, but report it so differently, it seems like they all witnessed something entirely different. Michael Ovitz would use "Rashomon" as a metaphor when communicating how and why somebody would see something different in a negotiation.

The First Rolex Submariner 1922 Hermetically Sealed Pre-Oyster

...In The Time Before Rolex Oyster Time...

The First Rolex Submariner
1922 Hermetically Sealed Pre-Oyster

The Rolex Submariner is the most iconic watch ever made, and its origins are absolutely fascinating. The photo below is of a 1922 Rolex Submarine, which is a hermetically sealed Pre-Oyster, waterproof watch. This is an extremely rare example in pristine condition. You can learn much, much more about the history of the Rolex Submariner in my 19 part series named "The Complete History Of The Rolex Submariner & SEA-DWELLER. Rolex's Conquest Of The Ocean."

Although Rolex perfected the Rolex Oyster waterproof watch case in 1926, it had been working on perfecting a waterproof case for many years prior, and the Rolex Submarine which was made in 1922 (seen above and below) was waterproof, but it did not have a very high depth rating, and in order to access the watch to wind or change the time, you had to screw-off the top fluted bezel, which over time would wear, and was not so easy, yet it was effective.

Below we see the actual trademark registration certificate that shows Hans Wilsdorf filed it on March 31, of 1922, which was 104 years ago...

We also see a public registration notification that was published in a trademark journal in 1922, which features Rolex's "THE SUBMARINE".

You can learn, much, much more about how Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex revolutionized the wrist-watch in the early 20th century by checking out my story named, "The Complete History Of Rolex Leadership. Part 1: The Hans Wilsdorf Years: Founder Of Rolex."

French Actor: Jean-Paul Belmondo

...Rolex Coolness...

Jean-Paul Belmondo

French Acting Legend

1933-2021

An Amazing Career with Rolex Keeping Time

France Says Au Revoir!

To One of it's Most Beloved Actors

Jean-Paul Belmondo, often referred to as 'Bé-bel' was a highly charismatic and beloved leading French actor  was also a huge Rolex fan, as you can see in all the photos, including the one seen below taken in 1981 which shows him rocking a Submariner with Cyriel Claire.

Jean-Paul Belmondo possessed a certain perpetual Je ne sais quoi that transcends time. I was talking to Captain Danny, about Jean-Paul and he said "He had a Steve McQueen-like stature in French cinema".

In the next 4 images below and one above we see Jean-Paul wearing a Paul Newman 'Big Red' Daytona.

In the photo below from the 1977 Paris Match cover we see Jean-Paul Belmondo rocking his two-tone Rolex Datejust on a Jubilee bracelet.

Below we see the same photo but with better resolution.
