10 PAST TEN Launches 2.0 Website

My pal, Eric Ku at 10PASTTEN.com just let me know he just completed an overhaul of his already great webiste.

If you are not familiar with Eric Ku, he is one of the top vintage Rolex dealers on earth. I love hanging out with Eric because he has an encyclopedic knowledge of Rolex watches and Rolex history.

Eric is pictured above behind the counter at Fourtané Jewelers in Carmel during the First Annual Vintage Rolex Concours Exhibition and Carmel GTG which takes place the same week as the Car Concours de Elegance in Carmel California. I remember Eric had an ultra-rare Rolex Explorer II Prototype I had never seen before which blew my mind. Unfortunately he would not let me photograph it :-(((

Eric Ku has an amazing Rolex fixture collection which includes the brass point of sale display pictured below.

Eric Ku somehow is able to get ahold of ultra-rare vintage Rolex watches most people have never even seen before like the Rolex Thunderbird [Reference 6609] seen below. Also whenever you see a photo with the background as seen in the photo above and below, you know it is Eric's.

The Real Single Red
The SEA-LAB SEA-DWELLER

Eric also had this crazy-rare Rolex Single-Red SEA LAB SEA-DWELLER which is one of several in existence. Definitely check our Eric's all new 10PastTen.com website by clicking here.

MAD MEN & Rolex: The Number 1 TV Show Today

"History may not repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme." –Mark Twain

MAD MEN & Rolex
The Number 1 TV Show Today

In case you are not familiar with MAD MEN, it is probably the best TV show I have ever seen with the exception of The Sopranos–but that should come as no surprise because MAD MEN is produced by Mathew Weiner who was a writer and executive producer on the Sopranos. MAD MEN just completed its third season this last Sunday and to date it has won many Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.

In 2008 and 2009 MAD MEN won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series Drama and in 2008 Jon Hamm won the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series for his performance as Donald Draper. In 2008 MAD MEN received 16 Emmy Award nominations total.

So what makes MAD MEN the hottest TV show today? Many things. By the way, on a side note, it just so happens the star of MAD MEN, Jon Hamm who plays the character of Donald Draper (pictured below sitting down) is currently filming a movie in which he plays my namesake grandfather, Jake Ehrlich Sr. You can learn more about Jon Hamm playing Jake Ehrlich Sr., by clicking here.

MAD MEN is an American period drama TV series set in the early 1960s. It is about the early days of American advertising on New York's Madison Avenue. [Think: Madison Ad Men=MAD MEN].

MAD MEN is amazing because of the tremendous attention to detail. The Donald Draper character played by Jon Ham is married to his wife Betty Draper who is played by the amazingly beautiful January Jones. Betty & Donald Drapper are kind of like Ward & June Cleaver meet Bonnie & Clyde.

MAD MEN explores the deeper, darker side of human character in the most fascinating ways. January Jones character, Betty Draper is simple and complex at the same time. Once you think you have figured her out, you realize you know nothing about her.

Rolex Hotness: January Jones
Yellow-Gold Rolex Daytona

Betty Draper is played by January Jones who began her career as a fashion model. She is pictured below in a recent photo shoot wearing a Rolex Daytona on her wrist. Obviously not from the TV Show.

January Jones is also featured on this months cover of GQ Magazine.

There are Rolex watches all over MAD MEN and we see a yellow gold Rolex Day-Date on a character in the screen shot below. They even mention at the end of Season 2 they want to get Rolex as an account.

Also the character who plays the art director named Salvatore "Sal" Romano (played by Bryan Batt) wears a two-tone Rolex Datejust in seasons 1 through 3. Sal's character is pictured standing up third from the left side of the photo.

Despite the fact that January Jones is the definite hotness, the show also has a character named Joan Harris-Holloway played by Christina Hendricks who, at least in my mind is the super-hotness!!! She is pictured below with Jon Hamm. Ouwwwwchh!!!!!!

I think Christina Hendricks plays her role to the T, and did I mention she is gorgeous!?!!!!

Since MAD MEN takes place in the early sixties, it has a kind of male-chauvinist, Archie Bunker, "When girls were girls and men were men" kind of vibe. If you have no idea what I am talking about, then you have no idea what I am talking about ;-))))

MAD MEN just blows my mind and if you have watched it over the last three seasons you know what I am talking about. If you have not watched it over the last three years, you are in for a great treat because you can watch the episodes back to back to back–kind of like how you can spend a weekend watching the Sopranos.

Rolex Studio Shot of the Day: Yellow Gold Rolex Submariner

Rolex Studio Shot of the Day
Yellow Gold Rolex Submariner

The Rolex Enthusiast took this great shot of his yellow gold Rolex Submariner. It is so strange and interesting at the same time to witness another generation of Rolex watches heading into the "Vintage" category, but with the advent of all the new Supercase Rolex Sport models that is really what is going on.

When I first started exploring Rolex design–more than a quarter-century ago–the synthetic sapphire Rolex watches made all the jet-plastic (acrylic) crystal watches vintage looking. Today all the new Supercase Rolex watches with the ceramic bezel inserts are doing the same thing...at least in my mind ;-))))

I think more than anything, it just goes to show how totally timeless Rolex design is!!!!

Rolex Generosity: Daniel Craig

Rolex Generosity: Daniel Craig
Nobody Does It Better

Daniel Craig who plays James Bond wears at least 7 different Rolex watches which we have covered in great detail on Jake's Rolex Watch Blog. The Insider recently reported a fascinating story about Daniel Craig who actually took the photo of himself below with Tom Morro and Tom's wife Kelly.

Daniel Craig is currently co-starring in a play on Broadway in New York with Hugh Jackman named A Steady Rain. Daniel Craig is known for loving his fans and hanging out with them after a performance or even signing autographs in the rain.

Tom and Kelly were hanging out with Daniel Craig after the show and Tom noticed Daniel Craig's vintage Rolex GMT Master and complimented Daniel and told him he was an avid watch collector. Tom told Daniel the GMT was his favorite Rolex he did not have in his collection.

After they took some more photos together, Tom kept complimenting Daniel's watch and Daniel started to take it off his wrist and said "he could spare one and its yours if you want it." Tom was trying to be polite and said "I would love to Mr. Craig but no thank you." Apparently Daniel Craig looked a bit puzzled and continued signing autographs.

Then Daniel Craig got in his SUV lime and drove off. Tom must feel like the biggest dummy in the world. Imaging Daniel Craig offers to give you his vintage Pepsi Rolex GMT Master and you say no!?!?!?! Oh well!?!

Actually, now that I think about it, Daniel Craig is like Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra who were renowned for their generosity to complete strangers. One time Elvis was driving in his Cadillac and it broke down. A stranger pulled over to try to help Elvis and had no idea who Elvis was. The guy said, I fixed it enough so you can get it home, but I would take it into the shop as soon as you can since you don't want to do any real damage to such a beautiful car. Elvis handed the man the keys and said it is yours!!!

Daniel Craig is pictured below in New York wearing his Pepsi GMT Master

Wrist Shot Of The Day: Fredi's Fuchsia GMT

Wrist Shot Of The Day: Fredi's Fuchsia GMT

Fredi took this shot at Sunset so he got the great warm light, but what is so interesting is that some of the old vintage Pepsi (Red & Blue) GMT bezel inserts change color and the red changes into a beautiful shade of fuchsia and the blue turns from a cobalt blue into a royal blue. Very interesting color combination!!!

Rolex Hotness: Stormy Daniels...

Rolex Hotness: Stormy Daniels
[Reference: Oh Behave!!!]

Rolex Blog: 100PERCENT-ROLEX!!!

Introducing
My Buddy Bernhard's Blog!!!

I have a fascinating story to share with you about my pal Bernhard's new Rolex Blog from the Dutch, Netherlands!!! Bernhard has an amazing collection of vintage Rolex watches and his blog is named 100percent-rolex.blogspot.com and you can check it out by clicking here.

Some of you may know Berhnard by his online handle of Bullibeer. I first came across Bullibeer in the German R-L-X.de forum a few years ago. He had a distinct trademark with his photos whereby he typically would take unusual wrist-shots of his super-cool vintage Rolex watches, and he would typically include his pant legs and vintage athletic shoes in the photo.

The Sneaker & Pant Wrist-Shot Style
by
Bernhard [Bullibeer]

I think it is very interesting that Bernhard created his own unique style of wrist-shot by shooting photos that include his pants and shoes. In many ways, Bernhard took the wrist-shot to a new level. Of course, anybody can shoot this style, but to the best of my knowledge Bernhard invented it. Very interesting, very cool and very unusual...

I remember when I first started seeing Bernhard's unusual wrist shots thinking Bernhard must be as crazy about Rolex design as I was, but in a different way.!!!

Jameslist.com recently wrote a story about the recent story I wrote about how I discovered a 7th Rolex on Daniel Craig, who plays James Bond. This recent Jameslist story is named Daniel Craig Tale Of Treachery Continues.

Jameslist.com began the story:

"The fantastic Mr. Ehrlich over at Jake's Rolex Blog (a must for any Rolex nutter) recently unveiled the next step in Daniel Craig's masterplan to annoy the hell out of Omega."

I've heard RolexAholic, Rolex Junkie, Rolex Fanatic, RISistus, but I must admit I had never heard "Rolex Nutter." Several days later, Love Blomquist from Jameslist.com emailed me to tell me about a follow-up article Jameslist.com published.

Love Blomquest, who is a writer from Jameslist.com and lives in Stockholm Sweden proceeded to tell me he was a "long-time fan" of Jake's Rolex Watch Blog and he thought The Daniel Craig who plays James Bond who prefers wearing Rolex in his personal life article was a "great article" then he asked me when the podcasts are coming back?

The reason I brought up the Jameslist.com story is because Berhnhard (Bullibeer) and I are indeed Rolex Nutter's!!!! Also, there will be many, many great podcasts coming up on Jake's Rolex Watch Blog for everybody that is interested. I only mention this because so many people ask me.

So back to Bernhard's new Rolex Blog named 100PERCENT-ROLEX [THE BLOG FOR ROLEX PASSIONADO's]. "Rolex Passionado's" is also a new term for me ;-)

Bernhard has an amazing Rolex collection and his blog is great which you can check it out by clicking here.

Bernhard and I have become pals over the years and please join me in wishing him nothing but the best with his new blog!!!

It is really amazing how in many ways the online Rolex community is really like an extended family. First you casually observe members of the community from your catbird seat (computer screen), all of a sudden you end up meeting them at a GTG or in a forum or through email and you become pals!!!

By the way, Berhard has a thing for retro athletic shoes also which he is cover on his blog. I remember when I first saw the photo below thinking "What a trippy dude!?!" I mean "trippy" in a good way!!!

Bernhard's Final Holy Grail
Paul Newman Exotic Dial Rolex Daytona

As I mentioned earlier, Berhnard (Bullibeer) has an amazing collection of vintage Rolex watches, many of which I have published stories on over the years. I think one of the reasons Bernhard started his blog is so he could have a centralized place to share all his photos.

The two photos above and below are from a story I did back in June of 2009 about how Bernhard finally found his last grail Rolex which was a beautiful Paul Newman Daytona [Exotic Dial] which you can check out in more by clicking here.

In the online Rolex community there are three dudes that I know of that are real Paul Newman Rolex Daytona "Nutters." First is Berhnard (Bulliebeer), second is Jeff (Dr. Strong) and third is myself.

All three of us seem to think Paul Newman was one of the coolest guys on earth and if you want to learn more and see many great photos of Paul Newman wearing his trademark Paul Newman Daytona please click here.

I remember when I first saw this next photo Bernhard took years ago of his Paul Newman Exotic Dial Daytona on a FATSTRAP–I thought it was so cool and powerful!!! This great Rolex image of Bernhard's will alway remain highly iconic and inspirational for me:

You know, it is amazing, now that I think about it, how many vintage Rolex memories I have from Jake's Rolex Watch Blog that have to do with Bernhard!!! I remember one weekend, a long time ago, I published a story about how I had done a podcast with the highly decorated NASA Astronaut and International Space Station Commander Dr. Leroy Chiao.

The STAR TREK Rolex
GMT Master at NASA

Dr. Chiao mentioned that when he was a kid, he remembered watching an episode of Star Trek that had a character named Gary 7 who somehow took Captain Kirk and Spock back to Cape Canaveral during the Apollo days, and this Gary 7 figure was wearing a Pepsi GMT. You can check out that original story by clicking here.

To make a long story short, I remember Bernhard getting very excited about the Star Trek story and about another story I did that same week featuring screen-grabs from I Spy.

I Spy a Rolex GMT Pepsi

Here are a few screen grabs from the first episode I analyzed of I Spy that show Kelly and Scotty that Bernhard got excited about last November. It's a Deja Vu kind-of-thang ;-))))

If you have been a reader of Jake's Rolex Watch Blog for a while and you are wondering what happened to I Spy Saturday and Flipper Friday and Miami Vice Monday, I plan to bring them all back as soon as I complete the current series I am working on about the history of the Submariner.

I think young Bill Cosby sporting his Pepsi GMT Master on I Spy is so cool!!!
